It's officially the year 2019. By this time, most people probably thought we'd be riding around in flying cars and all have personal robots running around our homes.

While we are actually probably pretty close to these things, I think we still have a ways to go regarding how we treat and interact with one another. Here are the top three things I think society should prioritize this year.

1. Stop With The Cynicism

It seems like for everything wishful or optimistic I say, there is someone in the room with a counter-comment on how "that's never going to happen" or saying "good luck with that." To which I reply "is that really necessary?"

If adults could keep the same fresh optimism as the youth, the world would be a much more productive, healthy thing.

2. Stop Being Dramatic About Opposing Views

With the amount of media we consume every day, there is basically an endless supply of topics to disagree one another. Politics, personal values, celebrity morals, and religion are just the tip of the iceberg.

In middle school, I used to scroll through Facebook searching for the juicy fights in the comment section of posts to read. Now, I comb through searching for one thing that isn't a point of tension.

Don't get me wrong, it is so important to have things you strongly believe in and advocate for. However, just because you believe something doesn't mean the person right next to you has to have the exact same beliefs, and that's okay. Please stop seeking out people to attack in 2019.

3. Bring Back Good Dating Practices

If I'm not hearing about all the cynicism or politics, you can bet I have a friend complaining to me about a boy that one anothercan't get it together. If you ask the boy, they'll say the same thing.

Dating these days, if you want to call it that, mostly consists of people talking for months or even years trying to strategically make it look like they are date-able but also not too available. Going out to dinner? No way, what if she thinks you like her. Texting back right away? Forget it, he will think you're needy.

In 2019, let's get away from the creeps on Tinder and get to where he brings you flowers and chocolates, and you can actually act interested.

I think the moral of these resolutions is that we all just need to step back and chill out. Everything is going to be fine. If you don't think your friend's dream is realistic, keep it to yourself. If you want to hit someone upside the head for their political views, go eat a brownie instead. If you want to text him right back, do it!

2019 is the year to get along, and, no, it's not that hard.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
