Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are one of the top theme parks in the world. The companies refuse to call their employees by employees because of their need to increase moral. Universal calls their employees "Team Members" because we're all part of a team to make the dream work. We have to deal with hundreds of guests everyday, due to the numbers in the park. Not all Team Members are going to give the top level of service, but we try our best to make everyone's vacation if it's within our power.
1. Telling your group that it would have been better to go to Disney World.
Just because we can't do what you ask, that doesn't mean that the other theme park is going to do anything. The policies are similar in both parks. To say that you are going to the "competition",is immature and childish. It inspires us not to "go above and beyond" to help the you either. Not all team members are nice, but all of them are respectful. "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar".
2. Asking to get in line because your infant or toddler wants to see the character.
This applies to the character, photo and show lines. I have never heard a guest come up to a merchandise line and ask me to take them because of their child. I can't speak for everyone else, but I hear this once a day with the character lines. I have had guests ask me to let them into the character line because it is their baby's favorite character. A baby is not going to remember meeting their favorite character when they still wear onsies. Yes, a picture would provide memories, but unfortunately the characters are on a tight time schedule. It is due to the amount of shows and meet n' greets that one character has before they go back to their home.
3. Saying "I paid a lot money to get into this park."
As soon as you walk in, you might find that 99% of the guests paid for their tickets. Just because you paid the price willingly it doesn't mean that you get special treatment. I have heard this line in different departments across theme park life for different reasons. The most selfish time to say that is in front of a make-a-wish family that had their vacation paid for by another charity because most families will lose their child over a life threatening disease.
4. Or saying "I wish my child was a Make-A-Wish child."
This only happened because the Make-A-Wish families are allowed to skip to the front of all attractions and entertainment in the theme park. This guest is obviously ignorant of what Make-A-Wish does for the families in need. I refuse to think that this guest was evil enough to wish that their child would be a Make-A-Wish child.
5. Asking "Where Is Mickey Mouse?"
I understand that some guests think that Universal and Disney are the same company, but one would think that you would see Mickey Mouse merchandise as soon as you would walk in and not Minions. There is a different kind of magic walking into Universal then Disney because both parks target different audiences.
As a whole, we understand that you all pay a bunch of money to come to our theme park. It does not matter how much you all pay, we deserve respect. With respect comes more magic than vice versa. We deal with a lot of guests on a daily basis.
