Once You Go Mac, You'll Never Go Back

Why Apple's products, specifically their laptops, dominate the market.

I'm not extremely educated in the world of technology, but because I am a member of Generation Y, a college student and a part-time writer, I have my fair-share of knowledge relating to computers, phones and other electronics. Recently I decided to finally invest in a reliable laptop computer. Nearly all of my peers arrived for freshman orientation with their new-edition Mac in tow, whereas I simply lugged along my hand-me-down Toshiba. Now that a majority of classwork takes place online and I've begun writing more, I decided I would greatly benefit from the upgrade. The following are my personal top reasons why I prefer my new Macbook over my old PC.

1. Less Options

With less options available in the Apple world, the decision-making process is much easier when compared to choosing a PC. Variety isn't always a good thing and while you're bound to spend a chunk of change on your new Mac, you do have a say on the screen size and storage allotment.

2. Speed

Feel free to argue this point and say that your HP or Dell is the same speed or maybe even faster than Apple's line-up, but from personal experience Macs, specifically my new Macbook Pro, is off-the-charts speedy! Modern day social standards have trained us to believe that faster is better, and while this may not be the case for food, when speaking about productivity it's essential.

3. Weight

As a college student I carry my life in my backpack, laptop included. This fall's back-to-school will be much less of a strain on my back as my new computer is 1/3 of the weight of my old one!

4. Applications

Although I did need to purchase Microsoft Office ($80 for 4 years), my Mac came loaded up with top-notch applications that I'll surely use daily.

5. Battery Life

For the amount that I'm currently using my computer, I only need to plug it in every other day, compared to my sturdy Toshiba which required charging after approx. 30 minutes of use. I can't wait for classes to kick in this fall and be able to make it through a whole day of classes and studying without dragging my charger everywhere I go and scrambling to find an outlet.

6. Screen Quality

My MacBook Pro features the 'Retina Display' which eases the strain screens can have on the eyes, and regardless of what angle I'm looking at my screen it is sure to be crisp and sharp.

7. Overall Appearance

The cosmetic features of Macs are known to be top-of-the-line and any upgrade from my old, clunky and cheap-feeling PC would have been a success.

8. Compatibility

My brain requires music while studying and lucky for me, Apple was running a deal when I bought my computer a few weeks ago which not only gave me a discount, but also included a brand-new pair of wireless Beats! Of course my laptop easily synced up to said new headphones, as well as my iPhone!

9. Customer Service

The friendly workers at the Mall of America Apple Store eagerly showed me my options for computers and even had the one I ended up choosing in stock! Plus, I'm able to head in at anytime for a free diagnostic.

10. Longevity

This factor, itself, was probably the #1 reason for me to end up choosing a MacBook over a PC laptop. On average, Macs will last customers around 8 years and many users don't run into any large problems (i.e. viruses).

And there you have it, my top 10 reasons to support the idea that... "Once You Go Mac, You'll Never Go Back".

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
