This summer, MAC Cosmetics is launching a makeup line inspired by the many incarnations of Star Trek. It mainly focuses on a few of the women from the show, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Counselor Deanna Troi, Master Chief Petty Officer Seven of Nine, and the Orion slave girl, Vina. It is a 25-piece collection that includes face, lip, eye, and nail products. The line is launching online on August 25, and in stores September 1st. The MAC creative director, James Gager said in a statement, "Star Trek is an iconic pop culture phenomenon whose storylines pushed gender and racial boundaries," and "For its 50th anniversary, we celebrate each of Star Trek's powerful women in a transcending, transformational makeup collection." When I searched the makeup line on the MAC website, it says, "MAC and Star Trek's latest cinema generation join forces in an exclusive makeup collaboration of cosmically charged hues". I assumed that many people who have heard about this line are not fully aware of who the women are that it's based on, so I am here to educate.

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura is in the original series, which began in the mid-1960s. She is a human female, and a communications officer for the Federation Starfleet. She serves on the USS Enterprise under Captain Jim Kirk. She is of African descent and is fluent in Swahili. Under the influence of powerful alien telepaths, Uhura and Kirk were forced to kiss in an episode, and it was the first kiss between an African-American and a Caucasian aired on television.

Counselor Deanna Troi is in the the series Star Trek: the Next Generation, which began in the late 1980s. She is a half human and half Betazoid, and her Betazoid nature allows her to sense feelings and emotions. This ability allows her to sense the intentions of their potential enemies, the current states of her crew mates, and effectively aid them as a counselor. She serves on the USS Enterprise-D under Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

MCPO Seven of Nine, or Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01 (full Borg designation), is a human female and former Borg drone. She was born Annika Hansen and was assimilated by the Borg at a young age along with her parents. She was liberated by the crew of the USS Voyager and joined the crew under Captain Kathryn Janeway. They were able to reinstate most of her human appearance, but a few parts were necessary for her survival and were left alone. While aboard the Voyager, Seven aided the crew in several technological issues and advancements.

The Orion slave girls, or Orion animal women, were female Orions who were very popular "commodities" trafficked through the slavemarkets of the Orion Syndicate. They were highly seductive and completely irresistible to men. This was discovered to be due to the pheromones they purposefully release and it turned out that they were not enslaved at all, but rather the enslavers. They made several appearances in the original series.

The makeup line has a variety of wild colors and intense glitter. You can see all of the products and their names here. The names are hilariously and obviously Star Trek, and you can tell that a little bit of research was needed to develop some of the names of the products. I am highly aware that MAC Cosmetics is an expensive brand, but I am completely willing to boldly go (get it...?) to their website on August 25th and purchase a couple of the products that I can see myself wearing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
