So over the years, Taylor Swift has released a number of songs relating to break ups and her love life, but from age eight to eighteen, I found life advice within her lyrics. So, here are just a few songs that I feel could help any girl at different points in her life:
1. Never Grow Up
"Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps
Remember the words said
And all your little brother’s favorite songs I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone."
Taylor Swift makes a point to prioritize family and reminds us that we won't always hear the sound of our parents coming home to us. We won't even have the same relationship we have with them before we move out and go onto to start a life of our own.
2. Innocent
"Who you are is not where you’ve been. You’re still an Innocent.
Who you are is not what you did. You’re still an innocent."
There are times in life when we feel guilt because of mistakes we have made or the disappointment we have created in others around us. But, in this song, Taylor reminds us that we are not defined by those mistakes and that there is still so much more to all of us.
3. Fifteen
"Don't forget to look before you fall
I've found time can heal most anything
And you just might find who you're supposed to be."
I find comfort in this particular lyric because, while some pain may seem to put you in dark place, she reminds you that time really heals most things that have hurt you. Not only that, there will be knowledge gained from that pain.
4. Tied Together With A Smile
"Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty
Is the face in the mirror looking back at you
You walk around here thinking you're not pretty
But that's not true 'cause I know you."
Growing up, I think we lose and gain self-confidence. A lot of times, we are harder on ourselves than others.
5. Shake It Off
"Just think while you've been getting down and out about the liars
And dirty, dirty cheats of the world you could've been getting down to this sick beat."
This is an important reminder because so much of our time can be wasted on worrying about negativity (most times issues we can not change), but in this line, she offers an alternative!
We can learn so much from Taylor Swfits lyrics. We just have to listen!
