Slowly emerging into our feeds and constantly appearing in headlines, Luka Sabbat, a creative New Yorker just shy of 18 years old, has officially taken over the role of the newest cosmopolitan, street style “king.” Mingling with other mysteriously trendy people, such as Ian Connor and Zoë Kravitz, Sabbat has reached over 190k followers on Instagram, on the fast track to the newest Internet sensation.
A native New Yorker, now notorious for his bushy, curly ‘fro, known to almost always have a cigarette in hand, Sabbat grew up with a mother who worked as a stylist for Dior and John Galliano and a father who was in Paris designing impeccable clothing. Always exposed to fashion and style, Sabbat spent most of his teen years in Paris, consuming the street - grunge style. He was born in the Lower East Side and attended Galliano runway shows at the age of 3, the same age he moved to Paris. He grew up in France, but spent a lot of time with family in London and travelled to New York for every holiday. He’s back living in NYC, but can also be spotted in LA with the Jenner sisters or Jayden Smith. Known for gallivanting around SoHo with his posse, he’ll be seen taking pictures, smoking and hanging at clubs.
Sabbat offers a very impressive background working with magazines such as Vogue or i-D and even brands such as Hood By Air, Stüssy or his best friend Virgil Abloh’s recent label, Off-White. Abloh was the friend who hooked Sabbat up with possibly the most coveted modeling position, participating in the much anticipated Yeezy Season 1 presentation.
Ironically, Sabbat fell into his modeling career completely accidentally. He was buying video games with his father, when Noel, the owner of Re:Quest Model Management, approached him. He claims that at first he wasn’t too into the idea, yet once she started talking numbers and the extensive traveling included, he was sold, noting it, “sounds fire.”
Sabbat is very hopeful with the millennial generation. He explains that we’re the ones who, “make and break the trends,” as we’re constantly trying new things and mixing styles and ideas. We’re also known to “inspire fashion a lot,” particularly with designers who tend to look at us and, “our generation as inspiration for their collection[s].”
His aesthetic is basically everyone’s goal. We’re all envying his casual, edgy, dope style and we appreciate his young contributions to the fashion world. He’s already big, and he’s getting bigger. Watch out for this dude; kid knows what’s up.
