Low Maintenance > High Maintenance Friends

Having space doesn't separate these friendships.

Have you ever seen those best friends that literally go everywhere together? Or how about the ones who are each other's #wcw every given week, maybe even the best friends who have the same tattoos that they got on one of their summer vacations with each other. We always see friendships like these thrown up on Facebook, and everyone has an idea that friendship looks like that. God forbid you give your friend a breath of her own fresh air, but you want to make her share that too. What ever happened to the low maintenance best friends? That's right, we still exist. Here's five reasons to make sure you have one of these "uncommon" friendships.

1. They never stray.

You realize by this point you are stuck with each other, and you don't have to drown them with all of your affection and obnoxiousness. Because you've taken the time to earn their companionship you don't have to prove it to anyone. You may not be the person they text first to hang out or grab a large fry with but they know that at the end of the day, it's you that they want to talk to about that stupid boy or that dumb new movie.

2. They don't involve all of your time.

These are the friends you can go three weeks without seeing, and randomly call in the middle of the evening just to ask them how their day was, and nothing is unusual about that. You have loads of dirty laundry to share with each other because you haven't seen them in person in over a month even though you live 20 minutes from each other.

3. You don't have to apologize for missed time.

You both are adults and realize that plans do end up canceled sometimes, and that schedules get crazy busy but you know you'll eventually make up the lost time even if it is a one night girl's night where you eat unhealthy pizza and turn on a chick-flick, only to tell your best friend every detail of how your summer has been.

4. They get you.

You'll randomly get that annoying Facebook messenger picture in the middle of the night that shows a picture of mac and cheese or the lovely Grey's Anatomy gifs that happen to be everywhere on social media.

5. You own the real status of "Best Friend"

They may upload cheesy statuses about other friends, and text them a whole lot but you know when it comes to the nitty gritty you're their person. They wouldn't want anyone else having full access to their messy life or hilarious inside jokes. Only you know their embarrassing elementary kiss and what kind of deodorant they use.

Of all the friends in the world, low maintenance ones tend to be the best kind to have around. They don't have to be by your side every second of the day to stand by your side in the friendship. If you don't have one then you are missing out on what a steady, spacious friendship looks like. It may take work but it's totally worth it!

Dedicated to: Hannah, Allison, Ashley and Bailey- thanks for being you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
