At last, a song about loving yourself, even if you’re not a twig. Don’t get me started on the video because I’m obsessed with it too!
As a 21-year-old woman, it’s always nice to hear a song like, “All About That Bass” especially while walking around Miami’s campus. We all know Miami has a certain stereotype when it comes to women and it’s a never-ending battle to look fabulous all the time. This song says you don’t need to look like you're about to enter a beauty pageant at any moment.
Here are some lyrics that I picked out to remind myself on a daily basis that I’m beautiful. So ladies, sit down, listen to the song, and love yourself!
Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two, but I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do
I haven’t been a size two since I was like in 7th grade, and I am perfectly content with that. I used to worry about my body and my weight a lot more when I first got to college, but now as a senior, I am more concerned with embracing the way I look and being proud of it. I have short, stocky legs and a big booty, but like Meghan says, I can shake it, shake it like I’m supposed to do (if you’re interested in my moves, find me at 90's night).
I see the magazine workin' that Photoshop. We know that sh*t ain't real C'mon now, make it stop
We have all seen the super, duper skinny women with thigh gaps in every magazine we open, and now we’re asking ourselves, “Is that REALLY what they look like?” I’m so over fantasizing about having a body like the models in the magazines because for all we know, a large part of it is fake and Photoshopped! I would rather see a “plus” size real model than a teeny tiny artificial model.
You know I won't be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll. So if that's what you're into then go ahead and move along
Like I already said, forget about making your body absolutely flawless and embrace who you are. Most importantly, don’t let anyone ever tell you that you need to change the way you look. If somebody tells you that you need to lose weight or stop eating multiple slices of Will’s Pizza caked in Parmesan, tell them to MOVE ALONG.
Every inch of you is perfect, from the bottom to the top
YOU’RE PERFECT JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!!! From head to toe, from bottom to top, and don’t ever forget it, ladies.
I'm all about that bass. 'Bout that bass, no treble
Bass is round. Treble is tall and skinny. Therefore, Meghan Trainor is saying that she’s all about being round and loving her life and who she is, rather than being tall and skinny.
So to all my lady friends out there reading this: Go bump this song in your car, in your bedroom, request it at the bars, and scream the words at the top of your lungs! You’re all beautiful. All you have to do is believe it!
