Loving An Artist

A few things to remember while dating a creative person.

Loving An Artist

Let me start by saying there are many different kinds of artists because no one is exactly alike. But all artists generally have a few things in common. Artists are bombs of creativity, exploding with passion and a yearning to say something through their medium. We are born that way and it is what makes up the rainbow building blocks of our spirit. Artists are some of the best people to love, but you need to know how we think in order not to go insane by our side.

We live in different place. Most people live in a relatively realistic space in their minds. Artists seem to teeter totter in the edge of this realism space and dream land. This is what makes us so good at what we do! We are constantly imagining reality in a different way than the ‘normal’ population is, so don't be surprised if we will over hype an event or get unreasonable nervous before meeting your parents.

Reason you love us for this: We take you in adventures. Everything is possible when nothing is off limits. We want to show you a little bit of the amazement we are constantly seeing in the world.

We REALLY feel. We run on emotions whether we like it or not. How we feel will affect everything, including our relationship with you. Support is the most important thing to give to a panicking poet or a saddened sculptor. Of course there is a difference between support and a complete emotional lean, but that is a case-to-case basis. In general, admiration and love will get us right back to being happy and smiling. Just as easy as the storm comes, it will go away.

Reason you love us for this: We really do want to love you extravagantly, because to us, love is the most incredible and inspiring thing this life has to offer. We constantly want to bring you flowers, send you flowers, take trips with you, and even incorporate you into our artwork because you make us so happy.

We can be flakey. This is just an apology. It is nothing personal, we just forget things a lot. Mostly we will forget that you are busy and can’t text us back, or forget that your Aunt July is in town and walk into your apartment looking like a total slob. And yes, you will tell us to “Write it down!” and you will even buy us a planner. Which would work if we remembered to look at the planner.

You will most likely become a muse. For some people, this is a major perk of dating an artist, and for others this is just plain uncomfortable. If being a muse makes you uneasy, try and think of it this way; your significant other thinks that you are so inspiring and interesting that they want the whole world to know about you and the way you make them feel! It only makes sense for us to combine the two things that we love the most: you and our art!

Reason you love us for this: Once you embrace the fact that your face or intimate story will be out there for the whole world to see, it is a pretty special thing to be memorialized in such a manner. To have content created about you but not by you is something usually reserved only for celebrities, historical figures, and for a few very lucky muses.

Congratulations, you found an artist to love. It will be a fanciful, energetic, and creative sort of relationship. Just remember to bring us back to earth when we are feeling bad for being flakey while painting a portrait of you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
