Valentine’s day is right around the corner, and with the blink of an eye it will be here before we know it.
Which brings me to the topic of the approaching holiday. Love. A four-letter word that steers the courses of our lives. (Whether we want to acknowledge that or not.)
In the past I have written about vulnerability and how we let our fear of vulnerability control our lives. The ultimate display of our vulnerability. If I could pinpoint one would be acknowledging our love for others. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching it can be easy to get caught up into the commercial sense of it . But let’s take a step back and see love for how important it is. The impact that love has.
Love is a funny thing, how it can be so consistent or inconsistent. Unbreakable or so broken.
Do you know what love is? Truly know what love is? The feeling of being free yet tethered at the same time. Oh, the feeling. The feeling of saying I love you to that special person and being able to hear it back.
The phrase “I love you”. Three simple words.
Three simple words that can tie you to a person for the rest of your life. Three simple words that can bring comfort. Three simple words that can also cause you to fear. Three simple words that can also cause you pain.
So, Love…
Something that simple yet complicated. Tying yet distancing.
So I’ll ask you once again. Do you know what it is to love? What it’s like to truly be loved. To let go of your inhibitions and love with your whole heart.
Because valentine’s cards and roses can fade with the test of time. But one things will always truly remain…love.
