An Open Letter To My Future Self

I hope that you have this whole life thing figured out at least a little bit and are as happy as ever.

Dear Future Self,

Right now, you are halfway through sophomore year of college. Can you believe how quickly it flies by? I hope things are going well for you as I have dreamed them to be.

I hope you are traveling like crazy like you said you would when you were 18 because you know that you will regret it if you don’t. So, if not, get on that and remember how important it is to you. I hope that you are still putting love before anything else because you know how important it is to not lose sight of that. I hope that you have reached a point of complete happiness. Now, don’t get me wrong. You are happy today, but you just want to stay happy all of the time and to not get as anxious over the little things. I do hope, however, that you know that you are strong and can overcome those little things.

I hope you are still going to concerts as much as humanly possible because we both know that nothing is better than live music. I hope that you are still learning as much as you can about this world and that you are getting exposed to other cultures and beauties this world has to offer so you can continue to grow as a human being. Constantly trying new things is a huge part of that and I hope that you are still as adventurous as you are right now. I hope that you are still putting love before anything else. I hope that you are still falling in love with everything. This means falling in love with books, people, music, and most importantly, yourself. By then, gone are the days where you may have felt that you were not worthy or enough, because you are and you know it. Confidence is the key and hope by now you have fully achieved that. I hope that you still try and believe that there is greatness in everyone and that there is hope for this world to be a better place.

I hope that all of those “maybe’s” and “if only’s” turned into “one time I…” stories. I hope that by now you have grown out of your fear of being stuck and feeling lonely. I hope that you no longer believe people when they tell you that you can’t do something and that you prove them all wrong. I hope that you are surrounded by friends and family and people that make your world better. I hope the great people that are in your life today are around you now. I hope that you have met more incredible people that you will share life long memories with.

As of right now in 2016, you are not really sure what your life will be like but you are so ready to sail through life to see what you can make of it. I hope by the time you see this, you can sit and say to yourself, “You freakin’ did it.” Until then, keep your head up and your heart strong.

Love,

Your Present Self

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
