For The Love Of Photoshoots

And doing what makes you happiest.

For The Love Of Photoshoots
Chandler Burke

As I nearly fell into the mud while making way to the train tracks where most of the shoot was taking place, I quickly realized if the shoes I was wearing became dirty then the entire shoot would be ruined. My gymnastics skills suddenly entered full force as I thrust my body over the massive dirt pit nearly instantly, without allowing a speck of dirt to cling to the shoes that I needed for the partnership.

With the added aesthetic for the photoshoot of three cameras wrapped around my body, I then realized that if I fell, the thousand dollars worth of cameras would fall too. That's when I realized photoshoots can be more difficult than I thought.

I have always had an obsession with the camera—although life seems to get so busy and I never really have time to set aside for curating my creativity and putting my ideas into a video or photography project. While walking along the train tracks and trying to get the perfect shots this past Friday, I was suddenly 1,300 pictures deep, and that's when it was validated that photoshoots really is time-consuming.

The train tracks led us to beautiful fall-colored trees, ancient sculptures, a beautiful wooded area, a running track, and then to the bleachers at the track. By 8 p.m., I was filled with excitement to see what the photos looked like, yet also extremely nervous to edit them within a day and make sure that they would come out to my expectations.

In about 35 hours, the entire process was all made worth it. I sat down last night after an exciting phone call with a friend back at home where I let her know about the experience and felt extremely thankful that the photoshoot and editing were now all completed.

I was mostly excited that I was extremely proud of it. After sitting in a coffee shop the next day for six hours, getting discouraged, and running back to my apartment to look over the editing for another 4 hours, I had accomplished the exact result that I was looking for.

The process was stressful, fun, crazy, and so so exciting, although when it was all completed I felt the amazing feeling I always used to crave from photography.

I have always loved both aspects of photography—as I am content with being in front of the camera or behind the camera. As this shoot happened to be the biggest brand deal I have ever done, I am more than excited to post the photos and show everyone the content I am so proud to have finalized.

Finding time for yourself to do things you have a great interest in is extremely important. I saw myself light up as I watched the sunrise, then set while finding various locations to complete the photoshoot throughout the day. I am happiest while doing things creatively, and being knowledgeable of that and having it proven from this amazing experience, I cannot wait to do it so much more.

And I will make time for it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
