"Love" premiered on Netflix this past February and stars young actors Gillian Jacobs and Paul Rust. I expected a good show with Judd Apatow as one of the creators, who is well known for his movie "Knocked Up." However, I was utterly blown away by the writing and acting.
The show focuses on two main characters, Mickey and Gus, along with their lives and friends in modern Los Angeles. Mickey is by far my favorite character for the reason that she is relatable to a real 20-something year old person today. Jacobs portrays a young woman living in L.A. simply trying to have fun and find a decent boyfriend.
Gus, on the other hand, is the nice guy who is recovering from a bad breakup. Their lives intertwine in the second episode and the rest of the first season follows their lives together and apart.
Birdie, Mickey's roommate, adds humor to the show. Similarly, the actresses that Gus tutors make the show funny and keep it from constant seriousness. The show really hit the mark because it is a perfect mix of humor, love and real issues that young people have to deal with today, like relationships and addiction.
If you are looking for a show to spend part of your summer watching, I highly suggest "Love" because it will make you laugh, tear up, and maybe you'll even learn something from the trials and tribulations of the characters.
