When I look at the love my grandparents share, it makes me hopeful that I will find a forever love too. For over fifty years, they have been by each other's side. Even after raising five children, their love grew stronger. And even after my grandfather's health took a turn for the worse, my grandmother kept their love alive. She does so much for him, and so little for herself, without any hesitation. She always takes care of him, never wanting help.
Just last week I was reminded of the love they share. My grandfather barely talks anymore, but that doesn't stop my grandmother from singing and talking to him all day. Even with five children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren ready to help, she still wanted to do everything. They are never apart for long and every time someone tells my grandfather, "Your bride is back," he smiles sweetly. That smile reminds me that he is still present and still loves my grandmother with all of his heart. The love they share is rare and I am so blessed to be able to have seen it all these years.
True love isn't always sunshine and rainbows, and I think that's what makes it beautiful. True love is never giving up on your relationship no matter how much money either of you have. True love is staying by each other's sides no matter how healthy or sick either of you are. True love isn't based on the color of your skin or your gender or your race or your religion.
I hope that I find a love like my grandparents. I love you both with all my heart. Thank you for showing me what true love is.
