Dear Mom,
Last Tuesday, I said bye to you at 6 A.M. to drive with dad back to school. I didn’t think much of it then, until Friday, when I started helping move the new students onto campus. I watched as the mothers fidgeted, and fretted over everything.
“Don’t forget to call, okay?”
“Was that everything? Did you get your toothbrush? Your towel?”
“Is there enough snacks? Should I go out and buy more?”
These are just a small handful of questions I overheard mothers asking their incoming freshman’s. I guess in the rush of trying to get adjusted to college, finding a summer job, and ‘figuring my life out’. I didn’t notice all your ‘behind the scenes’ work. So, here’s a love letter to you, mom.
I love you for all the times you’ve been there for me. From holding me when I scraped a knee, to telling me I can when I thought I couldn’t.
I love you for all the times you’ve cooked dinner for the family after a long day of work. If I didn’t appreciate you enough then, I most definitely do now when I cook myself dinner.
I love you for teaching me how to love by actions and not by words. For always putting my siblings and I before yourself when you could have easily done the exact opposite.
I love you for all the times you had to drive me to all of my practices. From the practices that started at the crack of dawn to the ones that didn’t end until almost midnight.
This list could go on forever mom. So bottom line, I love you for everything you’ve done. For the things I’ve seen and the things I don’t see.
I can’t wait to come home and give you a big hug.
Love,
Your college student.
