A Love Letter To Chipotle

Maybe this will help me win twenty years of free Chipotle like my boyfriend did :)

This is not another article on the great Chipotle vs. Moes vs. Qdoba debate. Personally, I love them all for different reasons. This is a love letter to Chipotle because as a company they care about so much more than making super-efficient yet delicious burritos.

1) “Food with Integrity"

Chipotle's food with integrity mission is their “commitment to finding the very best ingredients raised with respect for the animals, the environment, and the farmer." When it comes to animals, employees, and the environment they value treating them right.

Unlike the majority of meat Americans consume, the animals harvested by Chipotle grow up on actual farms opposed to pitch black factories with no space to move or even lie down. They are fed hormone free, vegetarian diets and each farm must meet certain naturally raised standards. If you notice a meat you usually order is unavailable at your local Chipotle, in most cases that's because the company is temporarily unable to purchase from a producer that's ethically producing that meat source. It may mean a shortage of carnitas in the short term, but they're sticking to their beliefs and taking action against animal cruelty.

Not only are the animals receiving ethical treatment, but so are the employees. Chipotle works with both small, local farms and some larger corporations. They ensure that the producers of their products are not exploited or unfairly treated before hiring a distributor. Another part of their mission is to bridge cultural gaps and hire workers from different backgrounds. They are accepting and willing to help others make a better future for themselves.

2) Sustainability

A major concern of the company is the environment. From the chairs in the restaurants to the to go bowls and napkins, everything at Chipotle is created with the intention of having the smallest impact on the environment as possible. Almost all of their products are made from 100% recycled material. In fact, the trash cans at Chipotle are actual recycling bins! It continues to baffle me how ignorant most people are when it comes to recycling and caring for our earth, but Chipotle is certainly on their game. They realize the importance of practicing sustainability and that's something that shouldn't go unnoticed.

3) Nutrition

Possibly the most nutritious fast food restaurant, Chipotle is healthy! Unless you load your burrito with cheese and sour cream, it has a nutritious combination of protein and vegetables; and it is certainly filling. The menu offers calorie counts and nutrition facts so you can track what you're getting. The website even offers an “Ingredients Statement" listing every ingredient that goes into each product.

4) Giving back

The leftovers from Chipotle are donated to the Harvest Program to help eliminate hunger in America. In addition, restaurants often support local schools and organizations fundraisers through percent nights and donations.

5) Keeping up

In today's culture, more and more Americans pay attention to things like where their food comes from and what they're eating. Not only do you get to choose every ingredient yourself, but there are so many options. There is something for everyone whether you're gluten free, vegetarian or a straight up carnivore. Besides food, they are up to date socially online through media such as Twitter, Facebook, and their interactive website. They even have a smartphone app where you can place your to-go order online for free. Chipotle also keeps customers entertained with their creative cups and bags that give funny, unique stories and facts to advocate creativity and keep customers intrigued.

Unlike most chain restaurants these days, Chipotle cares. They are a modern company that is socially plugged in. All it takes is a little time and research to understand the immense measures they take to uphold their mission and have a positive impact on society. Obviously, I love Chipotle for their food first and foremost, but these five reasons only add to my love of this heavenly Mexican grill.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
