Our Love Journey, So Far - Part 3

Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 was another amazing day. It was the first time I ever felt like I went on a real adventure around this great city. What made it even more special was the fact that I was going on this adventure with a man whom I was wildly attracted to; a man whom, on paper and in my mind, I had absolutely no shot with. I genuinely thought this was too good to be true. Alex was incredibly good looking with a great and wacky personality, and here I was thinking: what can this man possibly find attractive about me? Nonetheless, he wanted to see me the day after our first date, so he obviously found something in me that piqued his interest.

Once again, we met at Union Square West. This time, in front of the GameStop. For the second day in a row, I arrived to the meet up spot first. Thankfully, this amazing man has incredible sense of timing and I did not have to wait too long. I locked eyes with him as I saw him coming towards me from a distance. We gave each other another great, big, long hug as if we were reuniting for the first time in years. We told each other how we missed each other since yesterday. Corny and cheesy, I know. But it could not have been more true.

We made our way down 14th Street, towards the West Side. Our first stop was the CVS on 14th Street and 8th Avenue. If you recall, after our wonderful meal at Olive Garden the night before, Alex was in search for a sleeping mask at the nearest CVS. Unfortunately, however, he did not find what he was looking for. This was his second attempt at finding it. Again, there was no sleeping mask available at this CVS either. Why is it so hard to find this darn thing? Anyway, we continued on our adventure. Our second destination was the Apple Store on 14th Street and 9th Avenue. Alex, who was about to start his final semester in college before graduating, was in search of a brand new laptop that would be perfect for his assignments in school and beyond. We played around with the laptops that were on display for a little while. He even went on Youtube and decided to put on the music video of "Chandelier" by Sia, his favorite song; a song, according to him, that he can play on repeat the entire day. Our fooling around with the laptops at the Apple Store brought back memories of when my cousins and I used to love playing with the laptops way before we could ever afford one. Thankfully, I now have one, as you are currently reading the words that were typed on it.

It is worth mentioning that the entire time we were together, we were arm in arm walking the streets, not having a care in the world as to who looked or had a problem with it. Our next destination after the Apple Store was the Chelsea Market. Even though this is located so close to my house, I had not been inside the Chelsea Market in ages. When you meet someone new and someone so special, you become open to doing things you either haven’t done in a while or haven’t done at all.

We exited the Chelsea Market on the 10th Avenue side and realized we were out of ideas of where to go. I suggested walking along the Hudson River in the Battery Park direction and take in the beautiful scenery and talk some more, get to know more about each other. This is exactly what we did. There is a water park along the Hudson River called the Pier 51 Playground. At this time of the day, there were no children in the park. Alex and I decided to walk closer to the River, just outside the playground and witness the amazing sight across the river: the New Jersey skyline. We assured each other that we were both having a great time in each others company and that we would not want to be anywhere else but right here, in this moment, with each other, side by side.

We became silent for about 10 seconds after which we turned to each other and locked eyes. A smile simultaneously flashed across both of our faces. Finally, our faces inched closer and closer until our lips finally touched. Were there fireworks in the background, or sparks surrounding our bodies because that is exactly what is felt like. It was amazing. I wondered if it would happen again. Sure enough, it did and the second time felt even more amazing than the first, if that was even at all possible.

After this, we decided to walk to make our way to Queens; Astoria to be exact. Not knowing where we were. We decided to go exploring until we came across a nice and cozy diner named Mike’s Diner. We had dinner, which again, was amazing. The service was fantastic, the price was affordable. We decided that Mike’s Diner was our diner. The place we would go to, just the two of us, when we wanted to have a meal we knew would be spectacular and easy on our wallets.

After Mike’s Diner we made our way back to Manhattan. We explored Macy’s for a little while, again, something I have not done in ages. As a matter of fact, I have not one in my life even shopped at Macy’s. However, being with this man, I was open to doing pretty much anything! It’s the things you do for love!

After Macy’s, it was time for us to go our separate ways again. I can be honest in saying that I never went as far as a second date - with anyone - and I honestly don’t think I will have a second date as amazing as this one. As a matter of fact, I hope I never have to go on a first date, second date, third, fourth or fifth. Because I found the man that I want to be with it for a long long time. He’s the only one I want to date. He’s the only one I want to call my love, the love of my life!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
