Although it has been a year since One Direction's last performance, the boys are still busy, working on solo projects. Niall Horan has been touring around the U.S., promoting his latest single, Harry Styles has been busy filming for his upcoming movie, and Liam has been traveling across the world, producing music with close friends. For the most part, Louis Tomlinson was relaxing quietly up until last week, when his debut single "Just Hold On" was released. Shocking fans everywhere, the song has a hidden message that hits close to home.
Earlier this month, Louis' mother passed away after a tough battle with leukemia. As a beloved symbol of the One Direction fan base, everyone was both surprised by the sudden news. But as the whole world was mourning, Tomlinson released a new song, shocking everyone.
Teaming up with Steve Aoki, a popular EDM DJ, Louis came out with his song "Just Hold On," dedicating it to his mother. With lyrics such as "What do you do when a chapter ends, do you close the book and never read it again" and "So what do you want them to say when you're gone, that you gave up or that you kept going on," Tomlinson didn't hold anything back, wearing his heart on his sleeve.
Many are raving over the track because it's not the typical sad song that artists write when they lose someone close to them. It's full of energy and life, portraying both Louis' personality and his view on his life. He was always seen as the "mama's boy" in the band, so it came to no surprise that this tune would be full of emotion and vulnerability. But despite that, he was still willing to make a fun song, knowing that his mother would want that.
Aside from releasing the song so suddenly, he even performed live at The X-Factor Final, days after his mother's passing. Not only did this show how strong he is as an individual, but also how passionate he was about his mother and performing in her honor. Along with friends and family, all the active members of One Direction made an appearance as well, supporting their bandmate through this difficult time. They cheered him, knowing that this performance was all about him and not about the band.
This was a great opportunity for Louis because despite being dubbed as the prankster of One Direction, he had (and still has) the biggest heart, always donating to charity and going to events that benefit those in need. From soccer matches to princess balls, Louis was always willing to help those who weren't as lucky as him.
This song is another great example of how altruistic and helpful he truly is.
