10 Tolkien Memes To Describe Being A College Student

So this weekend at Bethel we are having Hobbit Day! Yes that's right Hobbit Day! While growing up, I was not a Tolkien fan, but after watching the first Hobbit movie I decided to read all of his books and fell in love with his writing. As a teenager I always heard my dad tell me how much of a masterpiece Tolkien's works were, but every time I would read them, I would fall asleep. At the time, I guess maybe the literary genius was a bit over my head. Last year, as I read and pursued Tolkien's work, I found the man to be pure awesomeness! What I have found more amusing is how much I can relate to some of the quotes as a college student. Here are 10 memes and quotes that describe being a student:

1. When you see your least favorite professor outside of class.

Especially the professor that gives you the ridiculous assignments right before the weekend.

2. When a professor makes changes to the syllabus.

We are thinking to ourselves "What has he added now? Please not another test! Please not another paper! Please let it be that there will be no quizzes or finals the entire semester!"

3. Your first week at college.

When you first start at school or when your parents drop you off for the first time. More than likely your parents are going to go out and celebrate after they drop you off especially if you are the last egg in the nest.

4. How we really feel about doing homework anytime during the semester.

Procrastination!

5.That one really hard class that you spent all night studying for on the day of the (insert math or science course name here) test.

Lets just be honest we hardly knew what we were doing when we were enrolled in the course, we hated it in high school, and we are thinking why did we ever let our advisor talk us into this!

6. How we really feel about 2 weeks before midterms.

Those weeks before fall break and midterms where it becomes tempting to roll over and skip not just your 8 am class but the rest of them for the entire week.

7. How we feel about midterms/finals.

We must consult with our best friends to find motivation to embark on the journey. You then begin to question everything about what you are about to do, what you know, or thought you knew before you realize once you get past this you are almost to freedom!

8. How you feel when you go home and relax after the semester is over.

Friends? What friends? I've been too busy reading books and studying to care about a social life.

9. When you have "free time" but you can't figure out what you were supposed to be doing.

Once you have decided you cant figure out what it was it then comes to you in the form of....

10. Dealing with the financial aid office at any point during the term.

Whenever you see that you are getting extra charges on your account for stuff you didn't use, they take forever with your refund, or they find other methods of trying to ensure you never see your money.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
