Now that we are starting to see some warmer days here in Chicago, our jackets and boots are turning into sandals and shorts. If you are anything like me, you love road trips and being outside. Luckily, there are some great places within driving distance of Chicago that are perfect that spring-fever vacation! Especially once we start seeing all our friends' posts from their summer vacations, while we are stuck here studying for finals (oh, the perks of the quarter system). Whether you are looking for something thrilling or a relaxing weekend, I got you covered.
1. For those who like the small-town trips
Location: Charlevoix, Michigan
Cost: You can easily find some hotels for around $60 to $90 a night. If you are splitting this with a few friends, you could stay for 30 bucks a night
Distance: Charlevoix is located 300 miles away from DePaul's campus.
Why: The best part of Charlevoix is its small-town atmosphere and the beaches. The city is surround by three lakes, which means triple the beaches! The quaint and quiet atmosphere leads to a relaxing weekend by the water and maybe some cute shops for window-browsing.
2. For those who like the tacky but fun trips
Location: Wisconsin Dells
Cost: The average hotel rooms range anywhere from $60 to $100, but if you are looking to stay at a water park hotel, you can find those for only $90 a night!
Distance: The Dells are just a quick 190 miles away.
Why: Of course we have probably all been there before, but we love to let our inner child out when shooting down those water slides. The tours through the dells are a great way to get out and get on the water. With water parks in the double digits to choose from, boat tours, and outdoors adventures including zip lining and hiking, you are bound to be enjoying the spring weather.
3. For those who like the "resort" feel
Location: New Buffalo, Michigan
Cost: Depending on the type of trip you are looking for, New Buffalo can be done on a budget. You can stay for under $60 a night. You can also take the more upscale route and choose the fine dining and fancy accommodations.
Distance: The closest getaway by far, New Buffalo is only 70 miles outside of Chicago.
Why: New Buffalo provides its visitors with beautiful beaches and attractions. The city is home to many upscale restaurants and bars, but has an easily walkable downtown. Here, you will find many wineries with free tastings, and some even include lunch. The city boasts a beautiful harbor where you often see some yachts docked.
