Lookbook Of 2016

TBH, 2016 was pretty rad.

It really bothers me that every time I get online all I see is people complaining about how 2016 was not their year....how 2017 is going to be so much better; how 2016 was the year that just went wrong for everyone. I think what bothers me the most about all of those statements is the fact that it is not true. While 2016 might have tremendously sucked for some people, overall, 2016 was not the worst year to be alive. So, to spread some positive vibes on everyone's timelines, let's take a look at the great things that happened in 2016.

Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar. Now, maybe I am just being a girl. Maybe it is my love for him pouring out of my heart, but this event took far too long. The star won the best actor award for The Revenant. It only took twenty seven years of him being in Hollywood, fifteen movies he starred in that got nominated, and a ridiculous amount of memes for him to finally win!

The first ever flower was grown in space! Thanks to Commander Scott Kelly who shared pictures of the zinnia flower that started blooming on the International Space Station! How adorable is that!

Beyonce released Lemonade. Okay, so let us first talk about how no one was even remotely ready for this at all. We all went to sleep ready for some nice, good ole dreams, and when we woke up the next morning....BAM! Beyonce pulled a magic trick and secretly released an entire album overnight. Who can even pull that off? Only Beyonce obviously.

Michael Phelps won his 23rd gold medal. GOOD FOR YOU DUDE, WAY TO GO! I mean, I can't really say I have ever won a gold medal...except back when I was a wee tot and I got a participation medal, which was kind of exciting I guess. But I think winning 23 Olympic gold medals is a little bit more exciting. The real question is, does he throw them all in a shoebox at the top of his closet? Are they surrounding his TV on display on his wall? Does he have a special cabinet made just to house all of his medals? Does he actually care about the medals after he won the first one?

Mother Teresa became a saint!!! Okay, so this was by far the best news I had ever heard. It was about time this happened too. There is not enough time or space for me to write how beyond excited I was when this happened. Also, if we all tried to act more like Mother Teresa, the world would without a doubt be a better place and we would no longer have terrible years like 2016 supposedly was.

Mark Zuckerberg pledged 3 billion dollars to medical research. Well, first off, congrats to you Mr. Zuckerberg that you can just throw away 3 billion dollars just like that. Meanwhile, I'm over here trying to decide if I should live off of mac and cheese this week or peanut butter sandwiches. But positive: HELLO to all the research that can be done with this generous donation!

Pokemon Go! So, this was great. Maybe it still is for some people (it was just a phase for me). Whether you continue to play it, or let is stay in your summer adventures, it brought friendships together (or tore them apart if you picked the wrong team). Either way, it was a fun time.

This 5-year-old boy with leukemia proposed to his nurse.Sarah Richardson is one lucky gal. When she joked with little Gideon that she wishes her boyfriend would propose, he stepped up and made a ring and popped the question! Around 30 people came out to watch him propose to Sarah while the music therapist played music in the background. Sarah happily said yes! It's stories like these that make me cry for no reason.

While there are plenty more stories like these above, everyone is focusing on negative things. I have also noticed that those who are complaining the most about this past year do not even have a legitimate reason as to why it was bad. Hop off the negative train ladies and gentlemen and find some positive things from 2016! Then take those positive things and focus on even more positive things for 2017!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
