Longing For Light

We see tragedy and we’re so quick to decide

Our eyes see one thing and they believe all the lies

The truth is hidden, put in disguise

Because we side so quickly with those who look like us

Foolishly thinking those are the only ones we can trust

This is why there are no answers, no change

We’re drawing lines, creating a divide

If we want love and hope

Then we need to stop tightening the rope

That chokes all of us in this façade

What we need isn’t just change but God

We need to remember we’re all created the same

The color red flowing through our veins

We don’t judge the flowers for being different hues

From red to pink to white to blue

If we can appreciate the beauty that lies in life,

Then why are we so quick to decide to

Hate each other and judge our brother.

Instead of love we see,

Eyes looking for answers not found in this place

Hands reaching out searching, longing, praying for change

Now is not the time to point fingers and create blame

No now is the time to remember we’re all the same

The pain you feel now is the pain I feel too

So listen to your heart and follow its cues

Because if we don’t start loving each other now,

We’re all going to drown and there will be no way out

We’ll lose the fight against lies and hate

And I really don’t wish that to be the world’s fate

I know it’s hard because we’re all covered in sin

But where hate ends is where love begins

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
