Long-Distance Relationships -As Told By The Office

Finding someone in college is great, but if you don't live near each other, summer break can feel like years instead of the quick couple months it really is. To all the couples out there doing long-distance, I feel you. We can do this.

1. The Lead-up to Goodbye

Right around the week before you part ways for the time being, you realize that it means no more grabbing food together, no more binging on your favorite shows on Netflix together, and no more seeing each other on a whim. Suddenly, everything sets you off. Whether you're like me, crying at any song or Netflix episode that has to do with goodbyes, or you become overly-attached to your significant other; the realization hits you right in the feels.

4. The Art of Cyber Romance

Being romantic when you're together is easy enough, but long-distance means you have to get creative. Whether it's sending them a song that make you think of them, or a funny corgi video, the possibilities are endless. But if you're like me, you'll probably react like this every time.

5. The Haters

There will be people that tell you it'll never work. There will be people with the audacity to suggest you end things. The amount of times you'll hear, "Wow that must be really hard, I could never do that," is infinite. Your relationship is not theirs to comment on; don't let the haters get to you.

6. Visitation

Figuring out when one of you is coming to visit is a big deal. If you're like me, you'll do whatever it takes to make it happen. And when the plans become set in stone, you won't talk of anything else. You'll probably even start a countdown (I am guilty of doing this).

7. It's the Final Countdown

As it gets closer and closer to their visit, containing excitement will be near impossible. The number of days until they arrive will get smaller and smaller, until the day just sneaks up on you.

8. The Arrival

This is the moment you've been waiting for. Your friends and family have heard of nothing else. You've built the moment up in your head for who know how long, but nothing will prepare you for the joy you're going to feel as you tackle them to the ground.

9. Settling In

Once they arrive, it'll take a little while for it to sink in that they're actually next you instead of a face on your computer screen. But, hey, seeing is believing right?

10. See You Later

Saying goodbye the second time around is a little easier. Just think, your significant other coming to visit means you'll see them even sooner than you think. Think of all the great memories you made, and don't forget, it isn't really goodbye, it's see you soon.

11. Keep Your Hopes Up

Some days will be harder than others, and it may seem like it's been forever since you've been together. But don't give up on what you have, because it'll be worth it in the end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
