What It's Like Having A Boyfriend At A Different College

It's not long distance but it is.

If you checked my Instagram right now, you would find that my most recent post is just about my boyfriend. All of the pictures are from Snapchat screenshots which I take of him almost- if not every single day. Today, I took 2 screenshots of Daniel, one of him sitting in car and then the second of him doing his homework.

A few days ago, he had the cheesy smile he makes and a white shirt that was captioned "Thinking of you my love." I love my small photo collection of all the cute Daniel Snap moments we have had. I'm in love with his smile and his way of saying things, especially when we start to Snap each other back and forth and they start to get funny.

On the days I wish he were here, I look through those photos and think about if I were the one to have taken them. What if I were the one holding the camera? Instead of the caption being in his point of view, it would be in mine. It would say something along the lines of "AWE, he was thinking of me and smiled!!" Instead of laughing at each other's silly faces on Snap, we would be laughing at them sitting on my bed and he would be trying to help me study for biology, but then get lost himself.

Unfortunately, fate said no on this one. Rather, it said "You guys are going to be great at this whole distance thing and if you aren't, well then too bad." Every weekend since I graduated, we have seen each other every weekend. I would travel the hour and a half to visit him or he would drive the hour and a half to visit me. We had the system worked out very well, and it works great. Until something comes up, or one of us has something planned that weekend instead or... you get the point.

Distance is hard! It's frustrating, too. My parents swear I love driving because I have driven so much since June that I'm not surprised that I need my brakes replaced, or I will eventually need an oil change... again. Right now to see my boyfriend, it is an hour and 31 minutes to get to Selinsgrove where my boyfriend go to college. Let me tell you, it's a pretty drive, but also a pretty long drive.

The great thing is that, he makes it all worth the driving and the long weeks and the needing new brakes. He makes having to pay to have a car at college, and also pay insurance on a car I use only twice a week all worth it. I love it when I go there with his room with no AC and I love when he comes here and we lay in my freezing cold room. It makes the time we do spend together the greatest ever because we are there together and while the time is limited, it's awesome to be there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
