Ashley Simpson hit the nail on the head when she said it’s going to make you want to La La, and she was referring to Lollapalooza.

Lolla, for short, is ultimately known as the killer but (gone mainstream as some would say) music festival thousands of individuals pledge to year after year at Grant Park in the one and only understated Chicago, IL.

Now some may hold the idea that Lolla is not for everyone, and hey, maybe it is not, but I can tell you this, there has got to be something in the air that brings the hills of people back every August for another unbeatable experience.

Our lives are short, and with this being said, why not make the most of every minute you have, and I promise going to Lolla will only give you more stories to tell and more memories to make. Being in attendance of at least one Lollapalooza surely won’t harm you too badly.

The Legend of Lolla

Merely three years ago, when I purchased my first 3 day pass to Lollapalooza, never would I have thought that I would take away so much from my experiences throughout my time at the festival. Walking into Grant Park as a rookie, of course I had no idea what I was getting into, the crowds, the music, the experience, and being a foodie, the food.

Lolla is the world that you make it out to be, and if you make the most of your short but long lived three days, you definitely come out with more than a victory.

As Lolla says, music is their DNA, and by the end of your weekend, music is your DNA, too.

At the time, I was doubtlessly taking advantage of the sounds booming in my ears, blaring from the raging speakers with every heartbeat and each step. The artists I saw have ranged from some of the most iconic artists of our generation to artists that have touched and inspired me with their voices and lyrics, as I am sure they have with many others.

Whether it was Eminem, Ellie Goulding, Mumford and Sons, the soft and esthetic voice of Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, the succulent beats of Kendrick Lamar and Major Lazer, the mesmerizing addicting sound of Queen Lana, or Twenty-One Pilots telling me to cross my t’s and dot my I’s.

Outkast blew me away as I danced aimlessly in the crowd to "Roses," surrounded by thousands, all enraptured by the old school steady beats and bass.

Regardless, Lolla brings you something you can never really get in any other place. It brings you a community of people who appreciate the sound and people leading them. Lolla brings you a mind blowing but indebted experience that people often yearn for, so why not make that experience for yourself? It will make you want to la la, and you will have stories you can share for generations.

The Architecture

Not only do you get to emerge yourself in the live sounds of music, but Lollapalooza also gives you the opportunity to madly adventure the unforgettable sites and streets of the alluring and bewitching Chicago.

Chicago is one of the most understated statuesque cities filled with infinite history and architecture. Lolla takes place in the heart of Chicago, Grant Park. Just from being in attendance of Lolla, you put yourself on the same streets that the Stanley Cup roamed, you are gently splashed with the blossoming waters of Buckingham Fountain, of which lights up as dusk arises. You surround yourself with numerous skyscrapers all meticulously built that meet to create a truly remarkable skyline especially when the lights of all the architecture twinkle in the mere distance of every stage Lolla has to offer.

Most likely, pre-Lolla and post-Lolla days and nights, you will spend your time in a high rise attentively idolizing the indigo and cerulean shades Lake Michigan accepts to splendor you with. Lolla gives you an excuse to explore a city and the chance to become for familiar with the local love Chicago has to offer.

The Camelback

If you have seen pictures of friends or family at Lolla, there is about an one hundred percent chance they are sporting a Camelback. Lollapalooza is not Lollapalooza and unless you have a nifty water carrying backpack to keep you hydrated from the constant rays of the beating sun. This Camelback will be your lifeline, so why not give yourself a reason to buy one? Lolla is the perfect solution.

The Food

Now, I am a little biased as I am from Chicago, and I do have a great appreciation of food in all aspects, but Lolla presents a hell of feast. My personal favorite, and for all the seafood lovers, is the Lobster Corndog. Now, if that is not enticing enough, I’m at a loss for words! At first thought, you would think "a lobster corn dog..?" but really there’s little that could beat it. Breaded in a thick overlay, the juicy, tasteful lobster is hidden inside, but cherished with a delicate sauce that serves as its accomplice. Of course, that is not all Lolla has to offer for all the foodies out there, but I can promise you that you will not be disappointed in any of the local Chicago vendors repping their recipes. They rise above and beyond the challenge.

The Community

Probably the best and most meaningful part of Lolla is the community it comes with. Every time I have gone I have gone with people that make my experience that much better. Lolla has the ability to create memories with your friends that you never would have dreamed of, good or bad, and mostly unforgettable. Regardless, Lolla has brought me some of the best experiences with the people I love the most, whether it was taking pictures on the rooftop of an apartment building looking over Michigan Ave, dancing tirelessly to every song we could find our beat to, or just gaining the experience to bond on a level you would not find in a normal everyday setting. You hold hands while you walk through endless crowds; you pick designated meeting places in case you lose one another, and of course you enjoy the music encompassed by the people you love to be with.
