If you are like me you love a good ghost story, are enthralled by the Paranormal, and are probably interested in haunted locales and perchance the history behind them. Below is a list of haunted places in Spokane Washington. If you plan to visit them be sure you get in touch with the property owner just in case, as it's best to be safe on your spooky adventures. This list is courtesy of The Shadowlands.
5) Gonzaga Prep High School
Apparently GPrep used to be an all boys school, so one lad decided to ignore the "no girls allowed" policy and had his girlfriend sneak into a tunnel and wait for him after his football game. The tunnel was also the location of a heater (who knew!), and when it kicked on it burned the girl who was leaning against the heating pipe. When the boyfriend went to look for her, he opened the trap door leading down to the tunnel and was greeted with the smell of burning flesh. It is reported that you can hear a girl crying around the campus. Maybe some of you GPrep alum can speak to this story in the comments?
4) Gonzaga University: Monaghan Hall
Once the private residence of James Monaghan, the building became Gonzaga's Music hall. James was murdered there and it is reported that the song played at his funeral can be heard along with growling and other instruments. An exorcism was preformed in the 70s, but it must have been unsuccessful because the building is still haunted.
I've had the pleasure of talking to a few people about the building and the consensus is that it's pretty damn creepy at night.
3) River Park Square Mall
Yeah, you read that right: the downtown mall possibly houses a ghost amongst all the stores. Apparently a man committed suicide jumping from a third floor escalator back in 2003. They say if you stare long enough at the map on the main floor you will see flashes of blood and bone and hear a nonsensical voice whisper in your ear.
I've actually tried this, but all I heard was Taylor Swift and all I saw was a bunch of busy shoppers.
2) Mini Haha Park
There is a building on campus that used to be the location of an orphanage. Children never adopted were purported to be murdered there. It's said that late at night if your hanging out by the toys where children played you will hear childish laughter, and that is how it got the name "Mini Haha."
I want to actually look into this one, and if any of you do, too, be careful, as people are not allowed in public parks after midnight.
1) Spokane Falls Cemetery "The 1000 Steps"
Near Spokane Falls Community College you will find the 1000 Steps Cemetery. It's said that no one has been able to make it to the top because as they climb they hear voices telling them to turn back, see ghosts and are met with a paralyzing fear.
I can say I have actually climbed the 1000 steps; I did it with my cousins and my uncle, and while I saw nothing it was a little creepy. The steps are crumbling and it's easy to trip. At the top you'll find a wall with a bunch of tagging (enough to piss off the dead). This is private property, so if you don't have permission to be there you better have ninja-level sneaking skills.
Well that's it: a small collection of locale haunts in Spokane, Washington. If you liked this article then by all means share it, and if you have any spooky stories then share them in the comments below!
