Worth The Buzz

Richmond, Virginia is filled with so much culture, whether it is from the natives or the diverse VCU community. Richmond has many districts to it including The Fan, Shockoe Bottom, The Museum District, or Carytown that bring the excitement to this city. There are hundreds of local restaurants that make Richmond what it is, here's a few favorites.

1. 23rd and Main Taphouse

Located on East Main Street in Shockoe Bottom, this taphouse is an exciting environment to be in. The food served ranges from pizza, salad, entrees, hamburgers, and sandwiches. One of my personal favorites includes the truffle fries as an appetizer. In addition, this restaurant has a perfect room for larger parties and serves brunch from 11 am to 3 pm on the weekends.

2. Social 52

Located in the Fan, Social 52 has become one of the most popular places to be. Known for the amazing night life at this restaurant, it is known for the food as well. This restaurant serves anything from flatbread pizzas, soups, salads, and more entrees. This restaurant also has many exciting night events that are inviting to the Richmond community

3. Tobacco Company Restaurant

This restaurant is located on East Cary Street in the Shockoe Slip district. Although on the higher price end, it is well worth the money. The beautiful scenery during the day turns into an amazing night life in this restaurant. The lunch menu features steak, sandwiches, soups, and salads while the dinner menu features seafood, steaks, salad, and pastas.

4. Sticky Rice

Sticky Rice, located in the Fan, is known for the tasteful Asian food served. Their menu shows a variety of Asian food including sushi, rolls, sashimi, sandwiches, and noodles. If you're looking for a tasty appetizer, try the bucket of tater tots. I would definitely recommend!!! Not only does Sticky Rice have great food, they also have a great night life. Their events include 50% off select items on Mondays, Karaoke Night Tuesday nights, and dance parties every Friday and Saturday night! Sticky Rice is not a place you want to miss.

5. The Pit and The Peel

The Pit and the Peel is a unique juice bar located right next to VCU's campus on West Main Street. Their food served ranges from smoothie bowls to quinoa bowls. They make their smoothies and juices fresh right in front of your eyes. The Pit and the Peel is perfect for if you are looking for something to cool you off on a hot day. The Pit and the Peel is also expanding their business to a space located in Carytown soon!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
