You know the big artists like One Direction and Ariana Grande? They get so much recognition for not even working up to where they are. They were given fame. It’s all about the face. They don’t really play instruments; They just sing. What about the local artists and smaller bands actually trying to make it? What about the local artists and smaller bands that actually PLAY instruments, and put the effort into trying to make it big. The amount of money and time it takes to record a record, or even write it. The amount of money they make for a small gig compared to the time they travel for the gig is insane. It’s nowhere near how much you think. Look at how much big artists make from tours. Look how lavish they live. Look how broke the local bands are trying to make it. Look at the effort they put in trying to make it. They use go fund me sometimes to raise money for an album or for a tour. The one difference between the bigger artists and the small bands is the passion they have for the music.
Smaller artists and bands don’t just play and perform for the money. They do it for the passion and love of music. When you go to local concerts, they’re small and intimate. You really get the chance to connect with the bands. It’s not just fans screaming all the time like a Beyonce concert is. It’s just people all there for the love of the music and the feeling of intimacy between the bands and the fans. It’s a chance to be able to really get to know them.
As someone who got into the local music scene at the age of about 15 or 16, I have grown to appreciate the smaller shows. I have grown to appreciate the bands and waiting for music because they’re starving for money or having issues trying to record. If I want to be honest, most of the bands are better live than on recording, unlike most mainstream artists. The amount of passion, and energy brought to the stage when they perform is incredible. You feel it. You feel the energy, and you feel the chill vibes. It’s such a wonderful experience.
Local concerts are great to go to because it’s kind of like you have your own secret band that you love and no one else knows about. It introduces you to a new type of people. The realest people out there; The people who eventually become family. I’ve met a few people from the music scene that I still talk too. The band members even remember you name and allow you to personally get to know them. Going to a local show should be on your bucket list.
