I think I’ve found the key to happiness. Are you ready? Here it is: Be yourself. That’s it. Two words. Very simple… or so it seems. It should be easy; sometimes it is. But other times the easiest thing to do is to compare yourself to others, to worry about how you are perceived or who might be judging you.
College is filled with so many different types of people and the sad truth is, almost everyone is going to judge you no matter what you do. You’re going to have enemies and not everyone is going to be your friend. But the moment that you stop caring about all of that is the moment you find happiness.
There is no guide to life and no one way to go about each day, so if you’re happy the way you’re doing something, keep going. Just because it isn’t the same as everyone else, that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Maybe you’re the only one doing it right! When you stop feeling the need to justify yourself to others, life becomes so much simpler.
Somehow it’s far too easy to forget that we only get one life. And it’s even easier to forget that we are the only ones who can control what we want and how we feel. So find the people who mean the most to you, find the things that inspire you, and hold tight to them.
It’s so much easier said than done but life would be so different if we all lived in a judgment free zone. No one else will ever be able to understand your life until they’ve experienced the entirety of it, which they never will. No one except for yourself can completely understand who you are and what you’re going through. Stop worrying if you’re making the right decisions. You probably are. And if you’re not, a few mistakes are okay, too.
The most important thing in life is to find happiness in all things. Accept where you are and what you’re doing, or else make a change. But never change for someone other than yourself. Be true to you and the ones you love, and all will be okay. Remind yourself of who and what matters, and will matter, and your life will be content.
