Nobody wants to gain the dreaded freshman 15.
While in college, everyone just focuses on eating or drinking and does not focus on how that will affect their body.
Throughout my years in college I
have notice people change, and by change I mean the dreaded freshman 15. This
is due to not caring, or realizing, how what you are eating and drinking on a daily basis will affect your body. Here are three things to keep in mind, while in college, to keep off that freshman 15.
You are what you eat… and drink. It was made
very clear to most people that once you get to college things change. After a
few weekends of drinking beer or mixed drinks and having pizza for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner you notice your favorite shorts that fit you just a few weeks
before no longer fit. Some ways to prevent this would be to simply watch what
you eat. Obviously, the whole drinking thing is not something anyone wants to
give up so I would suggest to focus more on what you are eating.
Sore is the new sexy. Try to fit in some time to
go to the rec. You may not know exactly what to do, but who said being sexy was going to be easy. Sign up for a spinning
class or simply run up one of the many hills on campus. After a while, you will
notice your body changing and you will start to feel better about yourself.
Sleep is your friend. In college, it seems to get
harder and harder to get enough sleep with everything that needs to get
done. Making sure you get enough sleep
is a major factor of living a healthier life. Some may not
think this is anything major, but getting the right amount of sleep can affect
how you perform in class and puts most people in a better mood.
Nobody wants to think about any of this while enjoying his or her time in college, until everything catches up. Yes, you will
gain a few pounds here and there, but as long as you feel good about yourself
and you know you are doing as much as you can to be a better you, then good for
you. Living a healthier life in college can be a challenge, but if you dedicate
yourself, you can do whatever you put your mind to.
