Summertime is the best time, right? It's a break from school for two to three months, depending on where you go to school. Even though you feel as though your skin is melting off, it's what most people deem their favorite season of the year. It's time when it's perfectly acceptable to sleep well into the double digits of the late morning, and then sit lazily by the pool for the rest of the day. I know that's how most of us spend our summers, but let me give you a word of advice, spend your time the best you can because summer passes fast.
You know how sometimes you look at the clock and realize that it's 2 a.m. and you have no idea how you let it get that late? Or how sometimes you think back and you realize that it's been a month or two since you last talked to someone or watched a certain TV show? Well summer vacation passes by just as quick, and honestly, it isn't just summer that flies by. Life also flies by pretty quickly and before you know it, you have debt, no social life, and hope and pray for the days when you can sleep in until 10 a.m. at the latest.
Summer is important because when you're young, it's the time you have to travel and see your friends and really experience life. I know many of us are so excited to be done with school we don't leave our beds for a week. Trust me, I've been there before too. But, there is a lot more to summer break than your Netflix queue. Everyone needs to pick up the phone and text or call the friends you barely saw during the school year and get together. Have a girls night out, or a movie marathon, and just enjoy time together. Summer is the perfect time for all of that. Go spend a day in another city, or take a whole weekend getaway. Go to concerts and drive ins. Go sit by the pool and turn into human bacon. Go to the movies as often as possible. See as many friends as you possibly can and catch up. Read every book in your bookshelf. Pack up the car and just go somewhere you've never been. Go hiking and camping, if you're into nature. And spend time with everyone you love.
Eventually you won't have a summer break any more and you'll miss those days. Regardless of heat or being tired, you may look back and wonder why you re-watched "The Office" four times one summer, instead of making new friends and hanging out with old ones. I like binge watching TV as much as the next person, but save that for the rainy, lonely nights and really live up the summer vacations that you have. When someone makes you start to "adult" you'll really miss summer breaks. And the older you get, the more you'll realize those were some of your most fun times. Summer is important and you only have so many summer breaks. Make them count.
As Ferris Bueller once said: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
