The Little Leader In Me

I would have never thought I would be the leader I am today.

The Little Leader In Me
Madeline Grumieaux

When I was a little girl, I never saw myself as a leader. I was the kid that hid behind mommy at the store. I was the kid that was a follower and not the leader. I followed the group being my little shy self. Years later, I see that a leader isn't always born, but a leader is grown from what has occurred in their lives. Sure, I didn't exactly show signs of leading when I was 4 years old at preschool, but I am making up for it now.

In elementary school, I always wanted to be line leader, because I liked to be in charge. Yep, everyone was going to follow me and they better like it. I believe that was around the time that I realized that I wanted to be a leader. In middle school, I always wanted to be first chair of the saxophones to keep everyone in check. I ended up being second chair, but I sure tried my hand in leading as much as I could. In high school, I REALLY stepped up my leadership skills. I was a class officer, student council member, first chair in band, and a section leader in band. I loved every moment of leading and didn't ever want it to end.

Finally, in college I walked in walking to the beat of my own drum ready to take on whatever leadership opportunity that would come to me. I stepped up and was elected as a member of our Student Senate and am now Student Senate President.

I strive to be the best I can be in all that I do. Being the best leader I can be is sure on the top of that list. Sure, I wasn't exactly a leader the moment I was born, but I have been shaped into a leader of today and that's all that matters. Who knew that all along there was a little leader in me?!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
