Have you ever been going through so much that you overlook the little things in life? It’s the end of the semester and I’m not going to lie, it feels like my life is in shambles. Between school, boys and work, I’m running on empty and I don’t know if I’ll make it through finals. I hardly ever get the chance to relax because it feels like I’m always doing something and constantly stressed out. However, the other day I was given a miracle. I got to have a small getaway to the beach with my parents. For two short days, I was able to take all the weight off my shoulders and have a little me time. In those two short days, I was reminded that we can’t forget about the little things, no matter how busy we are.
I was lying out by the pool with my mom, her phone playing some country song that I could hardly hear. The sun was blazing hot but the wind had a sharp chill to it which occasionally gave me chill bumps. The sound of the waves splashing against the sandy beach mesmerized me as I lied there with my eyes closed. I don’t know why I did, but I looked at the shrub that was behind me and that’s when I saw it. A little ant. It was all by itself, running from one leaf of the shrub to another. Sometimes, it would run to the edge of the leaf and then it would back away and run to another leaf. I instantly felt a connection to that small, little ant.
At first I felt sorry for him because he was all alone and most likely lost from his family, but as I sat there and watched him, I felt a respect for him. He gave me hope and inspiration. If this teeny tiny little ant can climb his way to the top of this huge shrub, then I know we can do the same. Sometimes, you might feel like you're running around with no direction, just trying to make your way to the top of whatever your lifetime goal is. Sometimes, you might feel like you're going through everything alone. Life can be intimidating and scary, but you know what? You can make it through it. You're strong, just like my little ant. Everyone is capable of accomplishing great things with hard work and determination.
So thank you, Mr. Ant, for opening my eyes to the little things again.
