This week, I listened to Passenger's new album, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”. The music lives up to its' folk label on iTunes. Unsurprisingly, the music can almost lean into
Another thing that this album has going for it is the great lyrics that are peppered throughout the music. A good example of this is the chorus of "Setting Suns", in which he sings "All my life I've been chasing setting suns/See me running up the hill when evening comes/They get further away the faster that I run/I'm getting old and tired of chasing setting suns". The lyrics of "And I Love Her", which describe a woman the singer is in a relationship with, are also really nice.
I think what I really enjoyed about this album is that it feels very simple (which I guess should've been expected from an album that starts with a song that's called "Simple Song"). The emotion in the songs is laid right out, and the lyrics aren't riddles which have to be deciphered. This isn't album doesn't necessarily have a lot of surprises up its sleeve. Rather, it is, I would bet, exactly what you would be expecting. But that's not meant to be a bad thing. Sometimes you want something that's going to be exactly what you expect it to be. "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" is an album to consider in those moments.
