Is one of your New Years resolution to read more? When you're in college, "reading for fun" really becomes a rare commodity. Especially as an English major, when I already have 20 books to read per semester for my classes. Too often, it seems like there's never time to just sit down and read a good book. What's the solution? Audiobooks. They have saved my life. Here's some reasons why:
1. You can listen while walking to class.
2. You can listen while working out.
3. You can listen while doing almost anything.
You can be eating, cooking, dancing, cleaning, studying, painting your nails, taking a bath, even just sprawling out on your bed!
4. No more skimming.
Sometimes when a book just gets too wordy, I can end up skimming over several pages. When I am listening to an audiobook, I can't miss a single word. This is especially useful if you have to read a boring book for class!
5. Some narrators are really good at character voices.
AKA Jim Dale, who reads all the Harry Potter books. There are over 700 characters in the series, and good ol' Jim Dale has a unique voice for each one.
6. They are a lot lighter than actual books.
I have a really bad habit of bringing every book I own on vacation. With audiobooks, you can simply bring your phone or computer!
7. Free trials and monthly deals.
With popular audiobook tools such as Audible by Amazon, you get a 30 day free trial and then get a books per month.
8. Just plain free!
Public domain books are completely free, including audio versions of them! On LibriVox, you can listen to classics like Jane Eyre for no cost at all.
