8 Things Every Girl Needs For College

As a freshman who brought way too many things to college and had to find room for all of it in a really small dorm, I’ve come up with a list of what I actually needed in college. I made the mistake of buying cute things I never used rather than practical things I needed. Think twice before you get carried away in the store that is displaying all those cute dorm supplies.

1. Leggings, sneakers, and other cute workout clothes

Leggings are the essential piece of clothing for any college girl. Sneakers are my favorite shoes to wear because college campuses are bigger than you think. Cute workout clothes are necessary too because they motivate you to wear them to the gym and when you're feeling really lazy, they’ll work as an outfit for class.

2. Rain boots, rain coat, and umbrella

You probably don't need all 3 of these in college, but you will be sorry if you don't bring at least some rain gear. Rain boots come in tall and short styles, and while they may not be gorgeous, they are a really good investment. They work great in the snow too.

3. Dry Shampoo

It’s an ugly truth, sometimes in college washing your hair everyday is just not a priority. That’s where dry shampoo comes in, you just spray it on your hair, brush it out, and you look totally presentable.

4. Keurig Coffee Maker

Coffee is your best friend in college. Sure, it’s nice to go out and get coffee somewhere, but sometimes in the morning you don't have time. You should also get some K-cup pods to make hot chocolate and tea. I recommend buying some paper hot cups so that you don't have to worry about washing mugs, because nobody has time for that.

5. Some food, but not too much

I am all for having snacks on deck in your room at all times, but don't turn your dorm into a supermarket. You should have some oatmeal for breakfast, and snacks like granola bars and popcorn, but don't stock up on Ramen Noodles. Number one, it’s not the healthiest to eat mac and cheese everyday, and they might go to waste since you’ll be going to the dining hall for most of your meals.

6. Command hooks and strips

I thought I would just end up using these for pictures and decorating my dorm, but they actually come in handy for things you never would have thought to use them for. I ended up using a hook to hold up my fan, and another one holds my backpack. Get yourself some!

7. Reusable water bottles and regular water bottles

You’re going to need water to make food and to drink. You should buy a case of bottled water, but its also a good idea to buy a reusable bottle. There are filtered water stations in almost every academic building on my campus so it’s convenient!

8. Alarms and lists

I have never used my Notes and Clock app on my phone more than in college. If you have a break in between classes, I suggest setting alarms to remind yourself not to miss class, and have one to keep track of your laundry (both of these things have happened to me). Also, I made a to-do list note on my phone to keep track of things.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
