We all know what can happen when we start drinking, or maybe we don’t. It’s a beautiful mystery. One thing that you can be certain of is that at some point in the night there will come a point where liquid courage grabs you by the hand and says, “let’s do this.” That, my inebriated friend, is where your night will either go perfectly right or so terribly wrong.
What is liquid courage? Well just to clear things up, liquid courage is when you have had too much to drink and anything and everything is fair game to happen. You never really know when it’s going to happen to you but when it does happen, you know. Liquid courage is the voice in the back of your head that tells you “yeah, you can totally go talk to that girl who is way out of your league” and you immediately believe that voice. It’s the voice that tells you “we both know that you can’t dance, but tonight you are Kevin Bacon in 'Footloose.'” It’s the voice that tells you “Did this guy just bump us? We better punch him in the face to make sure he doesn’t pull some shit like this ever again.” Clearly, liquid courage is a friend that gives you suggestions that are a 50/50 gamble. Either you make a fool of yourself or even get physically injured, but maybe, just maybe you walk away looking like a champion.
It’s a roll of the dice when you give into liquid courage. Maybe that girl thinks whatever line you just pulled was funny and behind all that sweat and painful look in your eyes she finds a cute face, or she might just tell you to get lost. Maybe everyone clears the dance floor when you come in busting out your own version of the running man and they applaud you for it as you fire up the crowd, or they might just shun you from the social herd and direct their attention away from you. Maybe you swallow your pride and don’t punch the guy who bumped you and said it was his bad, or maybe you just give in to the voice and punch a man who is clearly not as drunk as you and much more well equipped in a fight and you get dropped like a bad habit. We’re not sure. All we know is that once liquid courage gets in your ear its all up in the air after that.
The good part is that no one really cares (unless you don’t harm yourself or others) as long as you do something mildly harmless people will understand in the morning. We’ve all been there, and I’m sure we will be again. Liquid courage is just a real thing, that’s all you need to know. Until next time, grab yourself a beer and celebrate courageously.
