Syllabus week is over, Labor Day is over, using a map to get to class is over. Homework is now a thing, laundry can't be put off any longer, and you haven't been home in a month. Need a morale boost? Here's the best one ever: It's almost fall. It's almost sweater season. It's almost moccasin season. New season, new you? Let's do it.
1. Climb On A Roof. We won't tell you which roofs on campus have the easiest access (you'll have to figure that out for yourself), or when the prime time is for climbin', but I would advise that at least once, you experience a chilly fall night on a rooftop.
2. Drive with your windows down to Natchez Trace Bridge. Take the scenic route and get the best views of leaves changing colors and Tennessee hills. Make a day out of it and spend some time in Downtown Franklin. Warning: don't drop things off the bridge and don't go up at night, or you will definitely chat with some cops.
3. Convince a professor to postpone something. A quiz, a paper, a test...anything. This is one of the best times to do it - you're not too busy, haven't proved yourself too lazy yet. Everyone in your class will owe you.
4. Take advantage of Fall Break. It's only one day. Don't go home. Don't do homework. Be irresponsible and road trip to Gatlinburg or Savannah or just somewhere with friends. Hike in South Carolina or go visit the fake Eiffel Tower. Do something. It will be worth it.
5. Shop local at the 12 South Farmer's Market. Grab your blanket, grab a friend, grab a good book (not a textbook), and have a picnic in the crisp fall air! Trust me, it's the best way to spend a Tuesday night. If you can't catch the 12 South Farmer's Market, go to the one downtown and walk around Capitol Hill!
6. Refill your ABP cup...without them noticing. Enough said.
7. Spend some time at Percy Priest Lake. Might sound strange to say, but going to the lake when it's cold out is super relaxing. There's won't be many people around, so if you're ever needing some quiet time, this is the place to go. Set up an Eno and spend the day journaling, reading, or napping.
8. Buy something unique at the Nashville Flea Market. It's an experience. In my opinion, flea markets in the summer are pretty crowded, sticky, and miserable. Fall just makes everything more enjoyable.
9. Go to a festival! There are so many cultural festivals this time of year. You can hear some bad German music, eat baklava, or learn new dances. You never know what you'll find.
10. Take advantage of fall fashion. Wear a flannel as much as possible. Break in your moccasins. Go hard on your scarf game. But most importantly: never, ever wear leggings as pants.
Maybe these things will be an encouragement make this your new favorite season! Fall, come quickly.
