In Like a Lion and Out Like a Lamb

Seven things that every college student looks forward to in the spring.

In Like a Lion and Out Like a Lamb

March comes in like a lion and out like the lamb. March is the month that brings an end to the tundra and the beginning of spring. The snow melts, the sun shines a little brighter, and everyone is just in the happiest of moods. Nothing brings a smile to your face more than the thought of spring. Some of the best things come during spring. Here are just a few!

1. Green, Green, Green.

From St. Patrick’s Day to the snow melting, green is the color of spring. Nothing makes Purdue prettier than the springtime. Out goes the ugly slush and out come the flowers. Spring is the time when we remember why we came to Purdue and fell in love with the campus. Green also means St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The more green beer and green Jell-O shots, the better on this day. However, this St. Patrick’s Day will need to be celebrated early at Purdue, because all Boilermakers will be celebrating on the beach during spring break.

2. Spring Break.

The week of all weeks for the college student: spring break. Whether you’re road tripping down to Frat Laudy, or spending the break on the beaches of Cancun, spring break is one of the best weeks of the year. What happens on spring break stays on spring break. It’s a week of no rules, all fun, and some of the craziest memories you’ll make at college.

3. Frat benching.

There’s no better feeling than getting done with class, grabbing a fun pop and heading over to your favorite fraternity for some quality frat benching. Blasting music, soaking up the sun, and hanging with your friends is the perfect way to spend a spring afternoon on a college campus.

4. Warmth.

Nothing can beat a warm spring day after an awful, freezing winter. No more winter blues and pale as Snow White skin. Springtime means you don’t have to wear your ice skates to class because you are worried about falling on ice every .5 seconds on your way to campus. No better way to start your day than seeing the sun shining and the birds chirping as you make your way to class. The rising temperatures bring on thoughts of summer and carefree days.

5. Dartying.

The only thing better than partying at night is partying during the day. Partying when the sun is up just calls for a good time. Throwing on your favorite flannel and your high tops and trekking over to the party is the perfect springtime pastime. Plus, there is nothing better than an after darty nap.

6. No more Eskimo clothing.

Spring is the time to put away the puffy jackets and snow boots. Those dreaded days of accidentally stepping on the person’s coat in front of you in class are over. The days of wearing layers upon layers are gone. Walking to class actually becomes enjoyable and no more crowded buses when you accidentally rub up against the person next to you. Breaking out the sandals and shorts can be the greatest feeling.

7. Grand Prix.

Hands down the best week at Purdue. This week is the ultimate function. The nonstop fun and partying from Sunday night to Saturday night is the perfect ending to a semester before the stress of finals take over our lives. Grand Prix is one of Purdue’s biggest traditions and you aren’t a true Boilermaker if you don’t partake in all of the many festivities. You do not have a successful Grand Prix if you do not complete at least one silver loop challenge and have the time of your life because college is the only time you can celebrate Grand Prix.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
