The 8 Best Things About Having A Lifetime Best Friend
Kelsey Roney

From building blocks and baby dolls, to yucky boys and play dates, to makeup and MASH, to algebra tests and driving tests, to prom and graduation, and through college to wedding dreams, there has been one friend who was always there. Before we even knew what a best friend was, we had already started a foundation of a lifelong friendship just playing as toddlers. Though it was not always easy, our friendship has never faded away. I love looking back on all of the memories we've made, and look forward to the many more to come.

The eight best things about having a lifetime best friend are:

1. Always having someone to vent to, with no shame.

After those long days where nothing seemed to go right, I knew I could depend on my dear friend to listen to me rant. Whenever I had aches and pains and even heartbreaks, she was there to listen patiently. She even stood up for me, when I wouldn't stand up for myself. Nothing was better than the hilarious ways we would try to cheer each other up by sending funny selfies or pictures and witty jokes.

2. Knowing that I'll get an honest opinion, even if it's painful to hear.

From sending pictures of outfits to ideas of a new haircut/color, I can always count on an honest answer from my go-to girl. We aren't afraid of telling each other what is really on our minds, through hearing each other out about choices we've made or are thinking about making. In fact, most of the time I get my second opinions from her.

3. Having someone who has been there through all of the awkward phases of life.

Let's be real here; sixth grade was an awkward stage for most of us -- from wearing too much eyeliner to buying all Aeropostale clothes. Let's also not forget those old selfies where we had to turn our phones around to the back to snap a picture with the back facing camera. My BFF has seen me in my most embarrassing moments and still loves me, so hats off to her!

4. Being able to be my complete self.

Not having to worry about looking ugly or being weird was always relieving. I never thought about hiding the real me from my best friend. In fact, we'd bring out the true colors of each other.

5. Making an endless amount of inside jokes.

No one will ever get the inside jokes we make because of how ridiculous they actually are. Something as simple as the word "hamburger" will make us laugh and bring back the memory of that time when... Well, you just had to be there.

6. Sharing secrets openly with no judgement.

I can tell my best friend anything, with no reservations, and know that her lips are sealed. I trust my "ride or die" with my life.

7. Having someone to practice the most important things of life with.

Trying out new makeup and styling each other's hair was the daily routine. Plus, it was always nice having someone to paint my right hand when I couldn't even get my left hand to function.

8. Knowing our friendship will never end.

We can spend months without seeing each other or even hearing each other's voice, but each time we meet up it feels like nothing's changed. Even though we get mad at each other and have our disagreements, nothing will ever hinder our connection. Keeping a lifetime friendship isn't the easiest thing to do, but it is so worth it.

I love you, B.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
