August 22, 2016, my first day as a freshman at Judson University.
As I began my first weeks, I enjoyed spending time with my boyfriend, new friends and making memories. But inside me I was battling a storm, I had to fight it and I was all alone. I was enrolled as a Pre- Med Major, the courses were difficult, and each day I struggled with going to classes. Deep down inside I knew pre-med was not where I belonged. I belonged in a place that was full of laughter and life, filled with children's books and stories to tell. I was destined to become a teacher. My biggest battle was to fight for my rights, fight to live out my desires and dreams. The day I decided to voice my opinion, my life turned upside down. I can not go into too much detail, but let's leave it at this, my relationship with my mother was shattered. The woman I respected and who took me in even knowing that I am not of her blood, she betrayed me. I had to learn to cope on my own and decipher the ripple affects of my own actions. I decided to keep silent. I would be silenced forever, yet if I gave myself a voice, I would soar so high. My freshman year of college was a life changing point. I honestly couldn't have done it without the people who supported me through my trials. So guys, I am here to tell you that I am officially an Elementary Education major with an endorsement in Special Ed! This is my dream and I can not wait to spread my wings and soar.
Please never let anyone tell you that your dreams are stupid. That we should believe in reality and not live like kids stuck in a daydream. Living a good life shouldn't be associated with salary or where you are on the social rank. Life should be about the memories and the difference you can make. Make a difference, leave this world knowing you made a difference, not for oneself but for others.
