Why I Love Working For Kohl's

In September of 2015, I got my first actual job. Clearly, I'm a late bloomer. Anyways, I got the opportunity to work at one of my favorite department stores since it first came to my hometown area, Kohl's.

Among the coupons Kohl's gives out, the rewards points, the Kohl's care products/events and the benefits of their charge card; how could one say no to the place?

Here's just a few reasons I love the Kohl's store and company so much.

1. I met some of my best friends while working there.

I'm typically a shy person when I'm around people I don't know. So, as you can imagine I was terrified about starting a new job and not knowing anyone. Lucky for me, I met these two above. While Julia has left us at Kohl's, Jaclyn and I are hanging strong. They always made going to work fun and I'm so glad I've been able to develop these new friendships. Kohl's helped me find life long friends.

2. My managers are incredible.

I work at a Kohl's in Orchard Park, since that is where my college is. My managers there are basically the bomb. I actually transferred to another store for the summer and I am jumping with joy to go back to Buffalo. While I have enjoyed my time at the other store, I miss my managers in Buffalo a great deal. These are the most kind-hearted people and it honestly feels more like a family.

3. Let us not forget Chewbacca Mom and her story with Kohl's.

I know there are some people who didn't find her video funny and that's your opinion. What matters is what Kohl's did, after the video became a viral sensation.

She got to go on the red carpet and she was given loads of "Star Wars" gear. There aren't many companies like Kohl's, they actually do care about their customers, believe it or not. In most recent news, this is a woman of different talents. She debuted at the Grand Ole Opry on July 22nd. After this happened, she was taken on to join Dylan Scott's upcoming tour.

You rock Kohl's!

4. Coupons, coupons, and more coupons!

One of Kohl's signature moves is its coupons. If you're a Kohl's Charge Card holder, you get 12 discounts a year. But, if you're an MVC (Most Valuable Customer) card holder you get 18 discounts a year. Kohl's offers a percentage off every month if you have a Kohl's Charge Card. It also offers a friends and family weekend discount (20 percent off) with triple points on your rewards card. Associate's get their own personal discount of 15 percent off as well.

5. Kohl's cash.

Now, I have a love/hate relationship with Kohl's cash.

On one hand it keeps customers from being able to take their receipt out and doesn't allow me to circle the things I need to circle. But on the other hand, it makes me want to spend my own money to earn the Kohl's cash. If you don't know how it works, you earn ten dollars for every 50 you spend and it's good on any and all products in the store, unlike the percentage discounts that are offered.

6. Kohl's clearance racks are amazing.

Kohl's has dozens of clearance racks and you can always tell when things are getting ready to go on clearance because they're hung sideways. If you have the time and patience, you can find amazing deals on Kohl's clearance racks. I know I sure have.

I have also seen customers spend 250 dollars, walk out with 3 large bags, and save over 2,000 dollars.

7. The "Yes, We Can" policy.

Kohl's is all about the customers. This is proven true with its "Yes, We Can" policy that is in place. Kohl's cares about its customers and wants to keep them coming back. That being said, the company wants to do what it can do to help and please the customer in any way possible. This includes hiring friendly associates who can help customers out as much as the customer needs.

8. Kohl's is energy efficient.

If you've ever walked into a Kohl's you've probably heard the announcement over the loudspeaker. But, Kohl's really does care about saving the environment, starting with its stores. Kohl's recycles and reuses its hangers and it recycles all of its used bags. Customers can even bring in their own plastic bags to recycle them. Kohl's is focused on a better tomorrow, which is definitely something the Earth can benefit from.

9. Kohl's Cares.

This starts with our charity items that are featured by each side of registers. They are typically stuffed animals and a book to go along with it. The next few months are Clifford and Friends stuffed animals, Clifford books, Clifford book bags and a giant coloring package. All of these items are five dollars apiece and all profits go towards a charity for children.

For five dollars, how could you go wrong?

The company also does different Kohl's Cares events outside of the store. Generally, it is something to help the surrounding community and it brings your Kohl's family closer.

10. How clean and organized the store is.

I've walked into other stores and was instantly overwhelmed by the lack of organization. Kohl's isn't like that, at all. Sure, maybe the clearance aisle can get a little hectic, but that's generally because of the customers. Associates try their best to keep everything neat, clean and organized. Rarely do you see things on the ground when you walk into a Kohl's store.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to shop or work at a dirty store.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a million things I could list about why I love this company and why I love being a part of it. The people you get to become friends with will probably be lifelong friends. I know the ones that I mentioned above certainly are.

This company cares about its consumers and try its absolute best to keep them happy. I'm so thankful for this being my first job.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
