My Life With A 2-Year-Old Sister

It's pretty awesome.

My Life With A 2-Year-Old Sister

I was originally the middle of three girls. My older sister being 21 now, and my other little sister being 17. My mom met my stepdad a few years ago through some work friends, and they hit it off from the start. He brought a lot of things into our small all-girl family, including an older brother and sister-in-law. He treated us like we were one of his own, he goes out and gets us food and ice cream when we ask, and he is a pretty great guy to take shopping. We couldn't have asked for a better man for our mom.

At the end of my junior year of high school my mother told me something that left me in complete shock. I remember she was taking me to school and she said " I have something very important to tell you. I am scared and I don't really know what to do but I have to tell you... I am pregnant." I was in total shock. The first thing that popped in my head was how in the world did she become pregnant? Yes, I know how the whole sex thing works, but my mom was turning 40 years old that coming summer. I didn't know what this would do to our family financially, mentally, and what it would do to my mother's health. The selfish part of me started to think, how is my senior year of high school going to go? Was I going to be able to spend a lot of money on my dream prom dress? Was I going to be able to go on my senior trip? I was not happy when my mom told me she was pregnant, but thank the Lord that she did get pregnant.

My little sister has been such a blessing in my life! There are definitely some ups and downs though to having a sister so young when I am so much older. She is 2 now and I am getting ready to turn 21. Some of the downsides: Any time my family wants to go out to eat, my sister gets to pick. Which is either going to be Bob Evans, Cheddars, or Tres Hermanos. Every time we go to one of those three places I always hear, "Your daughter looks exactly like you!" or "Your little girl is so beautiful" and I always get to make the statement that she is my little sister. The looks on peoples faces are priceless once they find out that she my little sister. There is constant hitting and hair pulling, she is always licking me, and she loves to rub her snotty nose on my arms.

There are so many ups though to having a little sister so young; it has taught me what I really want my future to be like. Getting to watch her walk for the first time, giggle at the most random things, her first word, hearing her say my name in the cutest incorrect way. One of my favorite things about her is if you tell her to tell mommy or daddy something like "lets go get ice cream," she does it and it happens 99 percent of the time. I had always said growing up that I would never have kids, but now that I know I can handle snot being blown on my arm, poop diapers, hair pulling, and many other nasty baby things, I could see myself having kids. Thanks, little sis, for the smack (literally) of reality.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
