Life. A simple word. Only four letters. Yet, it's filled with so much meaning. Life happens in every moment. In every breath we take. In every tear we shed. In every smile we make. What is it about life that seems so difficult but then again so simple? Life is going on even when we beg it not to. We feel like we are in control, however sometimes we wonder if that is really the case.
It’s a weird concept to think about. And as you get older life seems to move faster and faster. You look back wondering where time went and as soon as you look forward again, you’ve lost more time. It’s like a sprint that never ends. Except, you are in last place and are not told what path to follow. You go on getting knocked down again and again.
Sometimes we feel as if we’ve been abandoned. Bad thing after bad thing happens and then we wonder why bad things happen to good people. Isn’t there supposed to be someone out there protecting us from everything? We have done everything we could to be perfect and then life hits hard. Why? A loved one passes away. Your friend is bullied. People are starving. Your neighbor now lives in a shelter. What have we done to deserve this? It is in those dark and low moments when you have to remind yourself that you are not alone. It may seem like you’ve been kicked to the curb, but maybe it was meant to happen for a reason? For something better to come down the road. They say once you have hit rock bottom you only go up. That is when that person out there looks down and smiles. He works his magic and turns life into gold. He shines his light and shows you the way.
In the end, we can decide this is our life and it does not have to be a sprint, instead a marathon. Enjoy the journey, work hard for it and feel accomplished once you’ve finished. I am not saying finished as in death, but finished as when you finally understand your reason for living. When you know your existence and what it is you were put here on this Earth for. Bad things happen. They happen to everyone. Still, it is in the hardest times that you must get back onto your feet after being knocked down. You are only human. You may still have some of the toughest times you will ever face waiting ahead for you. Or maybe you are going through something now. Understand you have feelings and it is okay to give yourself time and notice how you feel. Be mindful of your thoughts and maybe talk to someone.
It’s easy to deny what you are going through or what others are going though. Next time you see someone who is down, lend them a hand. Be there for them. Show them some love and compassion. Offer a smile. Step up for your friend being bullied. Offer your home to someone in need of a warm meal. Be there for someone who has lost a loved one. When things in life get jumbled, be patient because a beautiful ending could be ahead. Help others in life because after all, life would be nothing without the existence of others.
