Life: Our Plan or God's Plan?

We aren't living on our own time; we are living on God's time

Life: Our Plan or God's Plan?
Kristin Bass

As I sit here thinking about the events of the last several months, I realize just how short life really is. It seems like almost everyone has this preconceived notion that life is long and can be filled with so many amazing things that can make us happy. The truth is that we never know when we will pass away though. We can leave this world at any time, no matter how healthy or happy we are. God has a plan for all of us, and sometimes that means that he plans on taking some a lot sooner than he may want to take others. We can’t base the length of time that we live based on somebody else. Anything is possible, and we can be taken at any moment.

I am grateful for the time that I have had so far. Though I have made mistakes, I am happy with where I am at in life. If by any chance, I were to make it much longer in life, I wouldn’t be upset with where I ended in life. I have lived life to the fullest that I possibly could. Though there may have been more that I would have liked to do before passing on, those things don’t matter in the long run. All that truly matters is what my relationship with God was like. That is where a lot of issues occur when it comes to people wishing that they may have more time on Earth before they pass on than what they end up getting.

Most people, though they are pretty content with their lives, they still wish that they had more time to be able to fit in as many experiences that they can before they pass away. They are content with the things that they may have done, may have accomplished, already in life, but wish to accomplish more in the time that they think that they may have left in life. Though it is normal for any human to want to try to accomplish more in life than they may have already accomplished, most people forget that we are all on borrowed time, and that we are not in control of our lives. God is in control of our lives, and we are living on God’s time.

God sends us where he wants us, when he wants us there. God sends us to the places that we need to go to be able to fulfill the life that he was wanting us to have. During our lifetime, though we end up going where God wants us, it is up to us to decide whether we accept Him into our lives as our Savior and follow him the best that we can, or whether we chose to not accept Him and not follow Him.

We have many choices in life, and following Jesus is one of the biggest choices that a person can ever make. When I made the choice to follow Jesus, I decided that I wanted to have the best eternity that I could have after I pass on from this world. Though I still have a list of things that I would like to accomplish in life, I know that there are more important things than finishing that list. I am perfectly okay with not finishing the list of goals that I have for myself if it means that I get to go to be with Jesus. I am perfectly okay with the way that my life is going, and I am beyond blessed that I got the opportunities that I have gotten so far.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
