My Life As An Odyssey EIC

Seven days a week never feels like enough time. Check in's Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Weekly emails must go out no later than Thursday. Video call with my Assistant Managing Editor Thursday. Article submissions need to be in and edited by Sunday at midnight.

Sounds like a lot, I know. Being an Odyssey Editor-in-Chief (EIC for short) has been the most rewarding experience I have ever had. I found myself presented with an opportunity that has not only challenged me but helped me discover a piece of me that even existed.

My journey with Odyssey started back in June of 2016 when I was brought on to the brand new Odyssey at Humboldt State community as a creator and a few days later was hired as the EIC for this community that I would soon fall in love with. With my creators, who could all be found on the Odyssey at Humboldt community page, I have been able to put all past leadership experiences to the test. With challenging me to be more open to communication, providing knowledge from my experience and giving the inspiration, my creators need to produce the best content they can.

It would be hard to encourage a team without any encouragement for you, but luckily for me, I don't have to worry about that. Odyssey blessed me with the best Assistant Managing Editor (AME for short) an EIC could ask for. My AME has been my support system every step of the way, helping me become the best leader I can be. She has helped me refine my role as a leader and given me ideas to help my community grow. When the EIC life seems to become too overwhelming she helps me take a step back and realize that it's OK, we are all OK this is fine.

As I look to the future, I am only excited to see what new opportunities come my way with Odyssey. Things are looking bright here at Odyssey and I am excited to be a part of something the continues to grow bigger and stronger. If you are interested in joining an Odyssey Community, you can fill out our quick and easy interest form and join a community close to you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
