To my best friend,
First of all, thank you. Thank you for absolutely everything you’ve ever done for me. A lot of people grow up and meet their best friend at some point in their lives, but I literally knew you before I knew myself. From the time I was able to remember my own name, I was able to remember yours. As long as I can remember you have been right by my side.
Everything that’s happened in life we’ve experienced together. We went through every grade of school together, we’ve played the same sports, and we’ve even experienced the same losses. When I lost my brother, you were the first person I needed to talk to. When I told you what happened, you reacted as if you had lost a brother too. You stayed by my side throughout the entire process. You have always been my rock when I have not been able to hold myself up. We played the same sports together throughout our entire childhood. Carpooling to practice, infinite pasta parties, complaining about conditioning, we’ve been through it all. If one of us got hurt, the other instantly wanted to help. When I needed somebody to get my head back in the game, you were the first person to snap me back to reality.
Times have changed now. After high school, we both went our separate ways; you went to one school, I went to another. I haven’t seen you every day like I did for the first 17 years of our lives, but when we get together, nothing has changed. Life may make it difficult for us to always find time to see each other, but I want you to know that you are, and have always been, one of the most important people of my life. We’re more than friends, we’re family. When something incredible in life happens, you’re one of the first people I want to tell. And when I need to cry, you’re one of the first people I call. For almost 21 years now, I’ve had you by my side, and I hope nothing changes in the next 50.
I want you to know that just as you have been there for me, I will always be there for you. No matter where life takes us, I’m just a simple phone call away. And if you need me to be there, I’ll get there as soon as possible. Some people are lucky to find a good friend for a couple of years, but I have been lucky enough to call you my best friend since before we could talk. So again, thank you for everything, because without you, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
