Many of us grew up with rhymes from "The Cat in the Hat" or "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish." Some of the first books we read on our own we're from Dr. Seuss. But only now, as we're older and have 'grown out' of those such books can we really appreciate some of the messages in them. These short rhyming phrases were cute when we were younger but take a second look and see just how impactful they really are.
1. "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"
Be yourself, plain and simple. You were born to do great things, don't settle for being one of the crowd.
2. "Be who you are and say how you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind."
People should accept you for who you are and if they don't, they shouldn't be in your life in the first place. You choose who you let impact you. You have your own voice that you should always be true to.
3. "A person's a person no matter how small."
Being different doesn't make someone any less of a person.
4. "You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose."
Follow your dreams. Let no one stop you from pursuing what you're passionate about. You're the only person who can dictate your future.
5. "Today you are you and that’s truer than true. There’s no one alive that’s you-er than you."
You matter. You don't have to be genius or a musical prodigy or anything like that, you are you, and that is special no matter what.
6. "You’re in pretty good shape for the shape that you’re in."
Everyone is different. You don't have to be model skinny to be beautiful. Beauty comes in many shapes, sizes and forms.
7. "Will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed."
If you're doing something you love, you'll always succeed. Be positive.
8. "Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened."
Cherish the memories and be thankful they happened but don't let grief consume you.
9. "Think left and think right and think low and think high oh, the things you can think up if only you try."
Never underestimate persistence and the power of the human brain.
