My childhood, like yours, revolved around Disney, but back then it was mostly because unusual animated creatures, dressed in fantastic, colorful costumes created stories that made me laugh and escape homework.
At 19 however, I have found in Disney songs, lessons for life, words to abide by and, hope for everything bright and nice.
So here’s a list of eight songs and parts of their lyrics that are potential golden rules to abide by.
A throwback to throw at the back of your mind and keep handy forever as a reminder in times good and bad!
1. When you need a friendly reminder of the power in you, "A star is born" from Hercules.
“Just remember in the darkest hour
Within your heart's the power
For making you
A hero too.
So don't lose hope when you're forlorn
Just keep your eyes upon the skies.
Every night a star is
Right in sight a star is
Burning bright a star is born.”
2. When you need a reason to keep going, "On my Way" from Brother Bear.
“Tell everybody I'm on my way
and I'm loving every step I take
with the sun beating down yes
I'm on my way
and I can't keep this smile off my face.
Not the snow, not the rain
can change my mind
the sun will come out, wait and see
and the feeling of the wind in your face
can lift your heart
oh, there's nowhere I would rather be.
Yes, I'm on my way.”
3. Your daily dose of motivation, "You can fly! You can fly! You can fly!" from Peter Pan.
“When there's a smile in your heart
there’s no better time to start.
Think of all the joy you'll find
when you leave the world behind
and bid your cares goodbye.
You can fly."
4. Don’t believe in dreams yet? Here’s some Cinderella music to make you believe, "A dream is a wish your heart makes" from Cinderella.
“Have faith in your dreams and someday
your rainbow will come smiling through.
No matter how your heart is grieving,
if you keep on believing,
the dream that you wish will come true."
5. When you need that extra push, "Go the Distance" from Hercules.
"I will beat the odds.
I can go the distance.
I will face the world.
Fearless, proud, and strong.
I will please the gods.
I can go the distance."
6. There’s nothing holding you back, really! "I’ve got no strings" from Pinocchio
"I've got no strings
to hold me down
to make me fret, or make me frown.
I had strings,
but now I'm free.
There are no strings on me."
7. This. Obviously. "Hakuna Matata" from Lion King.
"Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase.
Hakuna Matata, ain't no passing craze.
It means no worries for the rest of your days. Yeah, sing it, kid.
It's our problem-free philosophy, Hakuna Matata."
8. And lastly, "Two Worlds" from Tarzan.
"Raise your head up.
Lift high the load.
Take strength from those that need you.
Build high the walls.
Build strong the beams.
A new life is waiting,
But danger's no stranger here."
I don't know about you but I know what's going on my playlist next.
