With the new school year ahead and trying to adjust to school, there will be good days and bad days, but do not panic. I have some sweet advice that will put away and wrap up your worries.
Remember the 1994 Drama/Comedy Forest Gump? If you don't, or just haven't seen the movie, no worries-- everyone can relate to this famous line. Forest Gump, portrayed by Tom Hanks, has an iconic scene where he is sitting on a bench in Chippewa Square. He tells the young lady sitting next to him that his mom always said, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." I think his mom was on to something because it seems that life is more than just a box of chocolates. Life is like all types of candy's: Gummy Worms, Starburst, Twizzlers, Pop Rocks, Neco Wafers, Nerds and Jolly Ranchers.
Sometimes, like Gummy Worms, life can be sour and at the same time sticky. There is just those moments in life where all the homework is piling up and the responsibilities seem to be stuck in one big sticky situation. You're down to your last gummy worm and you just do not know what to do.
So when you are down to your last gummy worm, try getting on your knees to pray to God or open your bible and read his word. Psalms 119:103 states "How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" As you read Gods words the sweetness of his wisdom flows through us to give us the strength we need to carry on. I know when I am having a bad day and I read Gods word, even if I do not understand what I am reading, my spirit and mind always seems at peace.
Even though life can get sour and sticky, it also can get fun and loud, like Pop Rocks. That moment when Pop Rocks are in your mouth and they sound like your television screen without a connection. It is hard not to laugh and smile at that sound rocking in your mouth. Just like the sound of Pop Rocks it's hard not to smile and laugh while dancing in the dorm room with your roommate like no one's watching, jamming to music while riding in the car, those late night stops to your favorite food chain or getting loud during quiet hours. Through it all, you will always have that leftover pop rock stain on your tongue and life will always have those leftover memories to look back on leaving those leftover sounds crackling in your brain.
Through all the ups and down I know that all of us college kids will push through and make it to the end of the year. Cheering ourselves on as we do it all over again but remember when life gets hard and fun, just like candy, all good and bad things must come to an end.
